Somaliland Non-State Actors (SONSAF) are deeply alarmed and concerned by the recurrence of inter-communal violence in Eel Af-weyn district of Sanaag region which has pitched brotherly communities who coexists in that area Somaliland Non-State Actors are calling for the immediate cessation of hostilities and the senseless spilling of innocent people blood.
Somaliland Non-State Actors are calling on the government and the members of the two legislative house to come up with tangible solutions to the root causes which are instigating animosity in Eel Af-weyn.
The CSO’s in Somaliland are urging the government to use all measures to enforce the law, disbarment and rehabilitate the youth from both sides involved in the conflict. And at the same time deal with anyone found to be directly involved in instigating the conflict in Eel Af-Weyn.
The Somaliland Civil Societies Organizations believes that for sustainable peace and stability to prevail in these areas Government’s should strengthen the presence of state institutions and at the same time improve the basic services provided to people in Sanaag region. , especially in El Afweyne District.
The CSO’s in Somaliland advises the government to adopt a clear policy and which is implementable in regard to land ownership, demarking clear boundaries for livestock grazing and settlements, urban growth and natural resources.
The Somaliland civil society urges the Government to initiate developmental projects in those areas so as to create jobs for young people in this area who need reassurance and hope so as to deter them from getting involved in such conflicts.
Finally, the Somaliland Civil Society calls on all the intellectuals, scholars, clerics, traditional elders, youths and women in the peacebuilding process in order to attain lasting peace in the El Afweyne district.
