The Somaliland House of Representatives has passed a motion of confidence in the new National Elections Commission, (NEC), but, the two opposition parties, Waddani and UCID have rejected this motion.
The new commission which is set to replace the previous commission, who had in a five-year tenure, held one national election, has already caused controversy.
Both Waddani and UCID have rejected the new commission partly because of the nominees from the Kulmiye party.
It is not clear whether the administration of President Muse Bihi Abdi will reconsider their nominees or whether the opposition party will acquiesce to the new
Somaliland’s parliamentary and local elections are severely overdue and this latest setback will make it even more harder to reach a consensus in order to hold the vote.
