Mogadishu: Employees at the Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu staged a work stoppage today. They are protesting a recent decision by Favori LLC, the company managing the airport, which terminated several of their colleagues.
Reports from within the airport indicate that up to 15 employees were laid off. A list of their names and employee identifications was displayed during the protest.
The employees, dressed in their work uniforms, were seen inside the airport grounds demonstrating. They held signs expressing their rejection of and grievance with the management’s decision.
The protesters are calling for the Federal Government of Somalia to intervene in the matter to secure a just resolution and the reinstatement of the dismissed workers.
One of the employees stated that the decision to terminate their colleagues was unlawful and has negatively impacted the airport’s daily operations.
Thus far, there has been no official statement from the management of Aden Adde Airport or Favori LLC regarding the employees’ grievances and the work stoppage. The situation at the airport remains tense as the staff demand that their concerns be heard.
