HARGEISA, Somaliland – September 9, 2025 – The Republic of Somaliland has officially reaffirmed its Visa on Arrival policy for all international travelers, the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Airports Development announced Tuesday.
The move reinforces Somaliland’s commitment to maintaining open, accessible travel procedures amid growing regional interest and inbound flight operations. All visitors arriving at Egal International Airport or other Somaliland airports will continue to receive visas upon arrival without prior electronic applications or pre-authorization requirements.
In a public statement, the Ministry emphasized that the policy is designed to support economic development, tourism, and humanitarian activities, while ensuring secure and efficient air travel.
“This reaffirmation reflects Somaliland’s steadfast commitment to open travel, regional connectivity, and passenger convenience,” said Fuad Ahmed Nuh, Minister of Civil Aviation & Airports Development. “We welcome our international guests with clarity, consistency, and hospitality.”
Airlines operating flights into Somaliland have been instructed to clearly communicate the Visa on Arrival policy to passengers and international booking agents.
The Ministry also took the opportunity to clarify jurisdictional authority, stating that no electronic travel authorization or visa issued by any external authority—other than the Somaliland Immigration Authority—would be considered valid for entry into the territory.
The reaffirmation comes as Somaliland continues to seek broader international recognition and strengthen its role as an emerging destination for trade and tourism in the Horn of Africa.
