The Taiwan Representative Office in the Republic of Somaliland strongly denies the unfounded assertions made by the Chinese Embassy in Somalia and condemns its aggressive rhetoric aimed at destabilizing the Horn of Africa. We call on the Chinese Embassy to stop its bullying tactics and genuinely support the values of peace and stability in the region.
The recently signed Taiwan-Somaliland Coast Guard Agreement, alongside the official visit of Somaliland Foreign Minister H.E. Abdirahman Dahir Adam, represents a significant advancement in maritime security cooperation. This multilateral platform is essential for achieving the strategic goal of establishing a Non-Red Somaliland Coastline, laying the groundwork for a prosperous Blue Economy. Taiwan is dedicated to further collaboration with the USA, UK, EU, and other regional partners to maintain stability and uphold a rules-based international order in the Horn of Africa.
Taiwan categorically rejects China’s unfounded claims of territorial sovereignty, which misrepresent essential truths. Neither Taiwan nor China is subordinate to the other; the People’s Republic of China (PRC) has never governed Taiwan, even momentarily. Taiwan is a sovereign nation, independent of China and its Beijing regime, despite the PRC’s attempts to claim historical influence before its establishment in 1949. China’s efforts to hinder Taiwan and Somaliland’s international cooperation are unacceptable.
Moreover, United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758 addresses Chinese representation at the UN and does not mention Taiwan or assert that Taiwan is part of the PRC. It should not be misinterpreted to support Beijing’s so-called “One China Principle,” which is used to make false claims over Taiwan. Only the democratically elected government of Taiwan has the authority to represent the Taiwanese people. The G7 countries have consistently opposed any unilateral attempts to change the status quo in the Taiwan Strait, whether through force or coercion.
The Taiwan Representative Office in the Republic of Somaliland remains committed to fostering peace, stability, and cooperation in the region while rejecting any distortions of truth by the PRC.
