This is the second time that I have contacted your office. The first time I asked that you speak at a reception in Washington, D.C., for the late President of Somaliland, Mohamed Haji Ibrahim Egal, who was visiting America, for support of Somaliland recognition or economic support. It almost happened!

Now I’m contacting you to commend you for your relentless effort to find a resolution in Somalia even if it meant risking your life- you were shot at the Mogadishu airport. Thanks so much for trying to save the lives of thousands of innocent people being caught in the crossfire of fighting factions in Somalia.

I am writing to you today imploring you to at least consider traveling to Somaliland Republic and see the reality on the ground so you can make your first impression whether Somaliland Republic should be recognized. In the waning days of President Bush, a high ranking State Department member visited Somaliland and was very impressed with the existing oasis of peace and tranquility and fledgling democracy in Somaliland.

I believe that democracy in Somaliland should be rewarded and your effort toward that vision will be greatly appreciated. For a recent independent assessment of Somaliland, see this link:

This is the first time that I have contacted your office. Sometime ago, I asked Honorable Payne of NJ, that he speak at a reception in Washington for the late President of Somaliland, Mohamed Haji Ibrahim Egal, who was visiting America, for support of Somaliland recognition or economic support. It almost happened!

Now I’ve contacting him to commend him for his relentless effort to find a resolution in Somalia even if it meant risking his life- he was shot at the Mogadishu airport. I thank him and you so much for trying to save the lives of thousands of innocent people being caught in the crossfire of fighting factions in Somalia.

I am writing to you today imploring you to at least consider traveling with Senator Feingold, to Somaliland Republic and see the reality on the ground so you can make your first impression whether Somaliland Republic should be recognized.

  1. Mr. Payne started this and attacked a whole nation vowing to do all he can to isolate them. Let the people speak about their country and once again show their loyalty to their respective country.

What would America do if today Somaliland officials say "they will do their best to harm America" ?

  2. The Somaliland Community in New Jersey shall pressure that Congressmen to support Somaliland against their votes. The congressmen shall discover that Somaliland is eligible to be recognized.

Somaliland Community in NJ, shall work together like Somaliland Community in Cardiff, UK

  3. Dear Somalilanders,

Iam glad to see your great moral support and your commitment for your country.
I know that so many people who have worked hard and also still working hard to write somaliland the map of the world.

You somalilanders, tighten your belts, it is time to unite our force and work as one as we have the same goal. It is time to fight the pen and defeat those who made us sheltering under the shadow of trees and collapsed bare houses.

  4. Remember the dark days that we were frightened to walk down our own streets for fear of being murdered, robbery and rape. We have seen pictures of our educated people slaughtered, our fathers having been beaten up, and our sisters having been raped by those who are against today the existence of Somaliland republic.

I wonder why somalis are enemy to my sweet home. Every day in and out, an estimated hundrends of displaced people reach in the major cities in somaliland with the need for protection and assistance.

We welcome and they access all the social benefits in their host communities. Like Shelter, Health and Education.

Shame of you and it is the time to thank Somalilanders who welcomed your minors, womens, lonely female house holds and your elder people.

Mr Payne, you have to keep in mind that Somaliland’s independence is irrevocable and its people will fight for their rights and freedom what ever it costs”

  5. I came to learn that Somalilanders are best friends everywhere in the world. They are helpfull people, but they are always without good friends! And no thaks Why!

  6. somaliland is independence countray , somalilanders regaing their lost liberty through aberter war , and somaliland will be excessted , long live somalinad

  7. I highly commend Abdi Hussein Gas foe his email letter to Mr Payne which says all – well done. It is the duty of every Somalilander particularly those in USA to educate Mr Payne and other USA politicians about the reality in Somaliland – no matter what Somaliland is not for turning. Instead of bannishing and underming the home grown reconcilaition, peace and democracy Somalilnd deserves not only recognition but Noble Peace Prize.

  8. Well done Mr.Gass. I wonder what the Somaliland Representative in DC is doing when it seems like officials in USA are totally ignorant about Somaliland and all it's achivement.

Mr Saad Noor or whatever his name is need to step up or Step down!!
