Colonel Khadar Jama Elmi, the Commander of Somaliland Traffic Police has announced that in the past nine months, 136 people have been killed in traffic accidents and over 2000 others have been injured.

The Commander of Somaliland Traffic Police, speaking to members of the media on Monday said that a death toll of 136 persons lost their lives and 2549 incurred injuries, 126 animals lost their lives due to road accidents, 46 due to electric poles.

The head of Somaliland traffic police further said, “The main cause of road fatalities are due to reckless driving usually involves a motorist that’s less concerned about other road users than themselves. Speeding, changing lanes without looking, tailgating other motorists and ignoring road signs are all classic signs of reckless driving, cell phone use while driving, illegal driving habit and inexperienced drivers who are the most common cause of road accidents.
