The African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) officially opened today, marking a historic milestone in Africa's journey towards healthcare sovereignty. The US$300 million tertiary medical facility, developed by African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) (www.Afreximbank.com) in partnership with King's College Hospital London, welcomed His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as guest of honour, represented by His Excellency, Senator Kashim Shettima, Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, alongside high-ranking Government and private sector officials, including the Minsters of Health, Finance, and Foreign Affairs, Nigeria Customs Services, Nigeria Immigration Services, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) and Bank of Industry (BOI), among others.

Senator Kashim Shettima, Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria representing H.E Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, H.E Professor Benedict Oramah, CON, President and Chairman of the Board of Directors, African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) and his wife, Mrs. Chinelo Oramah, Matron of Afreximbank Spouse Network (ASNET) during the commissioning ceremony of the African Medical Centre of Excellence Abuja (AMCE) on 5th June 2025

African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) Opens its Doors to the Public as it Seeks to Transform Healthcare in Africa
Located in Abuja and designed to meet the highest global standards, AMCE Abuja offers world-class services across oncology, haematology, cardiology, and general medical services. More than a hospital, the facility represents a bold statement of Africa's determination to reduce dependence on foreign health systems and reverse the estimated US$6-10 billion Africans spend annually seeking treatment abroad.
The opening of AMCE Abuja comes at a critical time, as Africa seeks to strengthen its healthcare systems and reduce reliance on external providers. The COVID-19 pandemic exposed the vulnerabilities of this reliance, with global supply shortages putting immense pressure on African nations. Similarly, past responses to health crises like Ebola have reinforced the urgent need for resilient, homegrown solutions. Decades after independence, millions of Africans continue to suffer from diseases like sickle cell and malaria, conditions that could be better managed with targeted local research and investment. Yet these illnesses often receive limited global attention or funding, leaving critical treatment gaps. AMCE Abuja represents a bold step forward, bringing world-class care to the continent, centering African health priorities, and laying the groundwork for a healthier, more self-reliant future. In strategic partnership with Bank of Industry (BOI), and Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), AMCE reflects what's possible when African institutions unite with shared purpose.
“Today, we are not merely unveiling a building, we are making a bold, collective statement: we will no longer accept medical vulnerability as destiny. The African Medical Centre of Excellence stands as proof that Africa is ready to compete with the best in global healthcare. I commend Afreximbank and its visionary President, Professor Benedict Oramah, and salute the partnership with King’s College Hospital for turning this audacious dream into reality. This is what happens when African institutions confront African challenges with African solutions.
“Over the past two years, we have taken deliberate steps to transform Nigeria’s health sector—from unlocking the healthcare value chain through the Presidential Initiative (PVAC), to expanding pharmaceutical production, regulatory systems, and diagnostic access, and securing over $2.2 billion in new investments through the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Initiative. But excellence must be sustained. That’s why we’re investing in the roads, power, and connectivity that enable great institutions to thrive. With the largest stem cell lab in West Africa and plans for a medical school, this Centre is more than a hospital, it is a place to heal the sick, and to train the future.” — H.E. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, represented by H.E. Senator Kashim Shettima, Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
Commenting on the momentous achievement, Prof. Benedict Oramah, President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of both Afreximbank and AMCE, thanked the Federal Government of Nigeria for providing the land on which the AMCE stands, adding: " In 2013, I had my own close call when I became seriously ill and was evacuated to King’s College Hospital in London, where a frantic battle to save my life ensued. Being here today is a testament to the power of cutting-edge medical research, clinical knowledge, and a solid healthcare ecosystem. The event we mark today is proof that society is better off saving lives than burying its dead, and that it is a living person who can contribute to development and social transformation. This experience led me to conclude that one of the major contributions I could make to Africa was to help Afreximbank deliver on its health and medical strategy in every way possible. Our vision for the African Medical Centre of Excellence is not just to provide top-notch healthcare but to serve as a catalyst for the transformation of the African health sector, making a bold statement to the world that Africa is finally taking its destiny into its own hands in healthcare sovereignty and global standards."
President Oramah also announced the launch of the Africa Life Sciences Foundation to act as the vehicle for mobilising appropriate risk capital to drive research efforts and called on African and non-African governments, banks, high net worth individuals and corporate organisations to join the Bank in investing in the hospital, through this platform.
Brian Deaver, Chief Executive Officer of AMCE, highlighted the facility's comprehensive approach: "Today, we don't just open a hospital—we launch a healthcare revolution for Africa. AMCE represents a paradigm shift in how specialised medical care is delivered on the continent. Our integrated model encompasses early diagnosis, advanced treatment, and long-term disease management, creating a seamless continuum of care that improves patient outcomes and health experiences."
He added: "Our mission extends beyond treatment to include world-class medical education, groundbreaking research, and continuous innovation. By combining international expertise with local talent development, AMCE will build sustainable healthcare capacity that serves generations to come.
AMCE’s opening signals a new era for Africa — one in which self-reliance replaces dependency, and world-class care is no longer the privilege of a few but the standard for many. By anchoring healthcare delivery, talent development, and innovation on the continent, AMCE is not just stemming the outflow of medical dollars, but redefining Africa's place in the global health ecosystem.
Through its clinical partnerships with King’s College Hospital, London and The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, AMCE will be home to advance research, education, and medical excellence by fostering continuous knowledge exchange. In its next phase, AMCE will expand to include a second 350-bed hospital, medical and nursing schools, a medical sciences foundation, research centres, and residential facilities. Together, this integrated ecosystem will position Nigeria as a leading hub for specialist healthcare, medical training, and clinical research on the continent.
Professor Clive Kay, Chief Executive Officer of King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust said, "We are proud to partner with Afreximbank on this important initiative. The African Medical Centre of Excellence represents a positive step forward, and by bringing together world-class clinical standards, training, and research, we aim to share our expertise and support the development of a sustainable model of care that responds directly to the needs of African patients”.
Now open, AMCE welcomes patients, healthcare professionals, researchers, and partners to join its mission of delivering world-class healthcare, fostering innovation, and building a healthier, more self-reliant Africa. AMCE is the largest specialised private hospital in Nigeria and West Africa focusing on cardiovascular services, haematology, comprehensive oncology, and general medical services. It currently boasts of 170 beds with a plan to expand this to 500 beds upon completion. It features the largest stem cell laboratory in the region, fifteen post stem cell isolation rooms in West Africa alongside five theatres and three catheterisation laboratories. It also features a 20 bed intensive care unit, six critical care unit beds and 20 chemotherapy chairs with compounding pharmacy among others. Some of the specialised equipment in Nigeria and the region are exclusively hosted by AMCE Abuja. They include the 18 Mev cyclotron, 3 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging, 256 slices computed tomography, brachytherapy machine with iridium source, 4 biosafety cabinets and 128 slices computed tomography machines, among others.
Distributed by APO Group on behalf of Afreximbank. The AMCE Abuja will deliver comprehensive services in oncology, haematology, cardiovascular care, and general healthcare, with plans for future expansion. Its primary goal is to reduce medical tourism by offering advanced procedures, such as stem cell transplantation, and state-of-the-art treatments for various diseases. The construction phase, supported by global partners, will be followed by a phased rollout over six years, culminating in a 500-bed facility. By tackling healthcare brain drain and reducing medical tourism, AMCE Abuja will create employment opportunities across both medical and non-medical sectors. Following the groundbreaking ceremony in December 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari, AMCE Abuja is scheduled to commence operations in early 2025. This flagship facility is a crucial component of Afreximbank's network of healthcare facilities, aiming to address brain drain, decrease medical tourism, and foster job creation. The vision for AMCE is to shape a healthier and more educated future for Africa.
The secession ISAAQ clan is facing devastate blow to their mindless dream to run away from Somalia. Now nation (British) they called white ISAQ is leaving them to deal with greater Somalia.
The main point and the timing of this decision by the British government is to punish this clan who refused to participate London meeting under the watchful eyes of President Hassan SH. Mohamud. all the organizations that spoon feed this militias are heading home. 22 years of misleading is going down the drain.
Excellent news
Same song hater from fasaqh like u to hope downfall of Somaliland since 22y but this country is always there and withtout doubt is stronger day after day. No more BS Somalinimo love. This time is over..Viva 3 Somali states
daroods are talking drivel as usual.
Somaliland-Republic is in a position to influence the region in a positive manner and if that reality is not being understood then the blame lies with the ELECTED political class of Somaliland.
They need to STOP… telling Somalia to go away and instead SHOW… Somalia a reason to leave.
Facts:
1. Somaliland-Republic was only interested in a UNION of all 5-Somali-regions.
2. Somalia-federation have surrendered the Somaliweyn objective.
"Somaliweyn or nothing" Midnimo requires all 5-regions.
Hassan Mahamoud and his Road-Map government are not interested in Somaliweyn… And that is exactly their Achilles heel to quick loss of legitimacy and exposure of their bankrupt Claim of UNION.
Midnimada 5-Somali-regions waa Muqadis…
This Fragile Road-Map coalition is only as strong as it's weakest link and it's weakest link is to debunk it's claim of Unionism outright… continually till it fractures at it's seams.
LOOOL Buuxiye.. ''Somaliweyn or nothing''. Gosh, you seem to gave yourself a power you never had. Somaliweyn was forgotten before the union, and now you want to use to that as a barging method? Look, if you think you can bargain while you don't even have the majority support of the people of North-west Somalia, you dreaming. You had your chance when the IC and the south out of sympathy gave you a North-west representative status, even though your representative status was illegitimate. Now, they will not even bother talking to you (separatists). The 50+ Dir members of the Federal Republic of Somalia parliament and the pro unions are the sole representatives of the people of North-west. Why do you think your leaders are so keen into talks? I tell you, they found out that if they continue with this hoax, they will never be part of the power sharing deal. But instead, the pro unions will get those seats. Plus the IC can easily put them on trial at the Hague because many of them have blood on their hand. I HOPE I KNOCKED SOME SENSE INTO YOUR HEAD.
Trush1 i can't be bothered to read that nonsense.
Unionism and Somaliweyn Died because Siyad Barre sold the Kilil outright. Qasim, salad, Abdullahi yusuf, Sharif and Now Hassam Mahamoud have all SOLD-OUT Killil and NFD in exchange for their Legitimacy from Ethiopia, Kenya and Djibouti.
Dude we do not share any land with Sheikhal what so ever and your people are dying in Dadaab and dolo Ado at the hands of the people you defend. Go feed your children instead in getting involved in issues that do not concern you.
What a nonsense this is the first government sins the collapse of the republic that the Ethiopian regime
has got no power over had Gaas or the other 2 sheikhs won i would of agreed.
Our new president HSM has mastered the technique of Zenawism on how to deal with the West reason why they are backing him 100% even to the extent of recognizing his government as the sole representative of the whole of 1960 Somalia while abandoning Sland.
If you wanna see the brilliance of this man you only have to listen to his speech at 19:47 directed at the U.S government to the question that was asked at 19:05 and Hillary Clinton response from 21:54 to 59

IRIR i say with clean heart and best of intention good luck brother with your ROAD-MAP Government.
Majority in Somaliland-Republic Voted to Declare Re-independence and that is the nature of Democracy. What we chose on 18-May-1991 Will never be erased in a million years and after a million battles. I hope Road-Map works for you and as for the Recognition all the TFG had the IC recognition of the Road-Map it may not have been vocalized as such and as for the donation from the USA they already spend $650million every year to keep Muuqdishu on life-support. Best of luck and do not mess-up your chance to be a peaceful country.
Our Mission of 22-years will continue and we only Wish that you keep your NEW found IC-support, Recognition, USA $$, Arms and training for use in building peace and stability for your people and your land.
May allah's blessing be with you on your journey.

Dude don't even talk to me about Hawiye like i do not know Hawiye!
You see this is how Hawiye pecking orders works… Abgaal eat first, then the HG, Jambeele, Rarane, Haskul, Gugun, and even after all the real Hawiye have eaten then only will they give the left overs of Degodia to Sheikhal. Sheikhal are sheegato one minute Hawiye and the next they are off-springs of Arab traders and local banadiri-Whores. Dude you are luck Hawiye let you have a part-time membership in the Hawiye clan because you are a looma-Ooyaan group lower then 0.5… Please do not even bother to come back after this you little cockroach of a c*nt.
GTFOH ->>> Part-Time Sheegato Looma-ooyans
Buuxiye, again you showed how retarded you are. Siyad killed more Hawiye than Is@@qs, yet you don't see Hawiye asking for secession.
Our we getting personal now Buuxiye, just because you run out of making solid argument. Sheikhaal are big clan, with more than 2 million members, and for you to make it as iff all Sheikhaals live there, shows how imbecile you are. There are more Is@@qs in that camp than sheikhaal in case you are not aware of it. So why are you not doing the same.
Nice said Buuxiye Midnimada 5 Somali waa Muqadis so truth that’s why Somaliland give up his sovergnity..What is funny Walanweyn and Faqash who are supposed to figth for somalinimo only in case to recapture Somaliland forget others and worst welcome Habashi,Bantu and traitors Djiboutian soldier in their own ground Zoomalia! Shame on them!
Shame on them indeed.
These people have signed a CONTRACT with the ENEMY of all Somali people and a Campaign must be launched to debunk them outright. Shabab was 1000% more beneficial to the somali name then they are.
Gosh did you said ''Shabab was 1000% more beneficial to the somali name then they are''? I'm glad you showed your true colours. Now everyone can see that the separatists are the founders and funders or Alshabaab. I'm also going to report you to MI5, don't be surprised when they knock on your door soon.
You are not only stupid you are retarded.
It is the likes of looma-Oyaans who volunteer to commit suicide not members of the Royal blessed house.
How is the Khaatumo project going dude? i hear Buhoodle is burning?
Loool at the Royal blessed house….Since when have you guys played any Royal role? Before colonial times you separatists where nothing, and after the colonial times you were nothing. Mate again I'm not from Khaatumo, but I fully support the Federal State Khaatumo.
First you tell me to help my fellow Sheikhaals in dadaab and now you asking how Khaatumo project is going. How confuse are you? Go easy on the alcohol and khat buuxiye.
And yeah, how come you haven't answered me when I said there are more Is@@qs in dadaab then dolo ado? And how come you are not helping them? Is chewing Khat and chanting Somaliland more important to you?
correction…..*more Is@@q's than sheikhaals in dadaab and dolo ada
You're finally waking up to the fact that Hargeisa ain't going nowhere without the blessing of Mogadishu and for that i congratulate you http://extras.mnginteractive.com/live/media/site5…

22-years we have done fine.
Recognition means something so long as we value it 2013 will decide not how long we will pursue Recognition not the number of Paths we shall be forced to deploy to achieve our collective objective.
Somaliland-Republic has given your Road-Map an interesting break from all the infighting the moment all the talks end between the 2-STATES as usual we will sit back and watch you cannibalize each other.
I doubt Somalia-Italia-federation will ever change and i do not see a future where Amisom will be leaving anytime soon.
Perhaps in 20years time we will Negotiate with the Bantu Citizens of Muuqdishu
Lool, Buuxiye you need to go easy on the alcohol and khat bro….. You calling Mogadishu, the home of the Somali race bantu? hahahaha, the alcohol and khat hit you hard bro.
Sade,
Your comment reminds me of Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd “Trading Places” movie. It’s astonishing how the news from Somalia is like there is no war happening and that of Somaliland is the conflict of all time these days! It provides laughter as much as it generates concern for some. Well, I guess that is what your comment regarding the upcoming London conference is alluding to.
Somaliland Security is in good hands. I wouldn’t have any nightmares if I was in Hargeisa.
Gaade.
Somaliland region project is all doomed. it was almost same as looking needle in a haystack and now haystack burn including the needle.
kk, my old time favorite movie "Trading places".
Why would any reasonable somali want to associate themselves with Isaaq? PLZ Let all say loud and clear we Support Somaliland Recognition but within a tribal agreement.
somalia knows the boundaries of Isaaqs where it start and where it ends. somali clans long created their tribal autonomous regions before the white trashes moved in.
Just because i say i own Nugaal will that suddenly make it mine???
– No i will need to fight to take it.
– Then need to fight to keep it.
– Then forever watch over my shoulders to make it mine.
Pungay Eastern Sool and Sanaag are Dead zones and they will be your down fall. Had you focus on your Bari to Mudug project you would have had a greater legitimacy in the international perspective and might have even convinced people to move the capital of somalia-Italia-federation to Gerowe…
Today you are insignificant in the federation so prepare to beg ABGAALO for handouts in the next 21years.
@Buuxiye
YOUR BONES WILL BE GRIND INTO POWDER,
Hargeisa, Burco, Berbera, Erigavo iyo Gabiley is your legal boundary if you want self-determination for YOUR indigenous Isaaq clan BUT if you expand to other non Isaaq inhabiting areas then that is a declaration of war, Hareisa, burco and berbera will burn into dusts.
Hawiya are shackled and will not come to your rescue AGAIN!!!
Issaq are all alone
Fowzi……How come your ex-president Dahir Riyale (who was the head of the notorious NSS North-west section) managed to feed you guys with lies and became afterwards your president, while he was responsible for the torturing of your fellow clan men on behalf the military regime. And now he is acting like he is a revolutionary man. How blind can you guys get? Pleas, open your eyes and do your own research instead of being guided by men who in the first placed are responsible for the massacre that was inflicted in your people.
Somaliland hasnt needed anyone for a long time, and it will remain so. Last I looked it was Somalia who needed food, soldiers, and the sympathy of the world to survive.
Stop hating us and start focusing on your real problem your hate.
This website has become the platform of PuntlandGeezer, Truth1, Kayse, Sade X and others who has phobia about the progress we reached. They cannot take it out of Hate & Jelousy. Imagine them seeing something positive about Somaliland and how their stomach aches!
They are sick individuals and will go the worst place in the world to come. That is for sure. Blind people of bad hearts is what exactly they are. Somaliland is here to progress and stay forever.
Can the same not be said about you, or some of your fellow landers.
they are the same scum. Only one man who's sister is being fertilized by a Congolese.
Omer Hussein Dualeh I support somaliland recognition but within a tribal agreement. Hargeisa, Burco, Berbera, Erigavo iyo Gabiley is your legal clan boundary and Sool, Sanaag and Cayn, Bari, Karkaa, Qardho,
Haylaan, Mudug, Nugaal is my clan boundarly. You don't cross in my path I won't cross yours.
It’s pretty sad that somaliland losed it status of peaceful area ! Just because im a Unionist it doesn’t mean that i be delighted of hearing such news. Anyway That period of turbulence Will Come to an end soin inshallah !
kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
if you say so
@ Buuxiye
I guess that's why Puntland is and will be in the end the biggest Federal state in Somalia, right !
I hated it when people talk BS online. I also hated when people tend think they are an expert and have all the knowledge regarding Somalia. I guess that's why I like insulting pig headed know it all, like you.
@ General Public who support the ideas and notions of such futile Articles.
I hate to sound arrogant but sometimes just the right amount of aggression, is needed in dealing with self obsessed, self absorbed people.
Now first of all, in the very ending of your article you sate the following.
"the onus is on the current president of Somaliland Ahmed Mohamed (Siilaanyo) and his government to counter such diplomatic maneuvering and safeguard, protect and preserve what the people had entrusted with him as eloquently stated by the outgoing president of Somaliland Dahir Riyale Kahin in his historic inaugural speech of current government” Today from west to east I transferred to you a stable and peaceful country and a people united with a common goal "
Now if I was to break down what you said, it would seem to me your current president is lacking leadership skills and the support of all the people of Somaliland. Also when you focus on the very last bit of that very statement. You get a sense that you as the writer are sugar coating the fact that there's is no peace from East to West of Somaliland. Now I can analyze this some more but I will move on.
Now originally why i decided to respond to this article is, for one recognized nation to counter the political maneuvering of another nation is possible. I will also like to say the only power capable of countering a super power is a super power, which pretty much means since currently the U.S is the only such power, they have at the moment no one to content with. Which will change very soon with the rise of Chinese economy and military, and also the slow re-emergence of Russia as an international player, due to the fact they are slowly rebuilding their army, with oil money from Europe.
Now with that said it is hard for an entity to counter the political maneuvering of a recognized nation. You may wondering why am I making such statement and where the my proof, well the answer is pretty simple Israel and Palestine ( not that North west and the rest Somalia are the same). But that it is the only other situation where you have an entity dealing a Sovereign nation (which Somalia has become once again).
Now I will like to ask you a question.
Do truly believe that the recent recognition of Palestine as a Observer member state by the U.N General Assembly was for nothing, just for name sake ?
Or was adding the word state at the end of Palestine, would actually make a difference in their future negotiations with Israel ?
Now i will go of topic a little to conclude.
The reason why the U.S and other IC members have chosen to recognize the Federal Government of Somali as the sole Representative of Somalia, is to help in with their dealings with certain neighboring countries, who were jeopardizing the hard work of bring back the Somali state back from chaos, by their self interest. Which was foolish to begin with in the first place, because to thing that their self interest would come before the only super power was foolish, and also for them to think that because Somalia was coming back from chaos, that we were friendless and helpless.
To sum it up, all I am saying is cut the BS and please think about things before you form and decided to express an opinion, or else you will be left with like minded people, padding you on your back. Saying it's okay this is what need to do, tomorrow will be different.
So to all you secessionist, do you truly think that the Somaliland Government and the people who are always telling you, tomorrow will be different. Truly have your best interest at heart, or is it all sick game for power ?
Please don't give me the same simple answers, that are always repeated. Think for your self or slowly lose your voice and just chant with the crowd.
I checked all the web sites that cater to Somalis (Hiiraan; allpuntland; Banadir) to name a few and I was not able to find any Somalilander posting any message (Pro or Con); this little found nugget made conclude that the people of Somaliland are extremely proud to NOT to associate themselves (good or bad), or are being jealous of Somalia (even though there is nothing to be jealous of). The people of Somaliland are not only proud and self-confident that their little enclave will prosper, and that noone will find Somalilanders running to south in order to have a little bit of peace, or food & shelter; to the contrary, Somaliland is teeming with Somalis who are looking for food , shelter and peaceful existence. So, all of those who are trolling somaliland web sites in order to post some nasty messages, I say to you……GET A LIFE, and move on; get you house in order before you denigrate someone else's……Long Live Somalind!!!!!!!
Buuxiye lets cut the BS, I know you don't care or wish good for Somalia, you would sell every other Somali into slavery if it meant the existence of your precious SomaliLand. I Also want everyone to see and know that I do not care or wish good for the SomaliLand Government or secessionist moronic crowds. There is no use in lying to each other, we stand opposed. We shall remain and stand opposed as long as you are the spokesperson for the secessionist and SomaliLand Press.
I grow very tired of your ever changing views. First it was SomaliLand, Somalia failed you union, which was mistake blah, blah, and now its since there isn't a five territory union and there will never be. SomaliLand should not go back into a union with Somalia, blah, blah, blah.
Which is it, or are you changing your views with the landscape of world politics. Since the recognition and the approachment of the IC to Somalia. You and your like minded moronic crowds have been going through some serious emotions.
Let me ask you Mr. Spokesperson question.
If the IC had to chose between SomaliLand and Somalia, for the benefit of their own national interest which would they choose
It seems you do not understand what the article espouses and its message. Dahir Riyale was head of the Northern Travel office and then transferred to Somali Embassy in Djibouti. If his association with NSS is a crime than he is guilty, but there is not concrete proof that he killed anyone. As a matter of fact, some residents of Berbera at the time of FAQASH genocide of ISAAQ People uncategorically stated that he saved lot of Berbera people while DAROOD so called generals are massacring people.
Fowzi
