Somaliland’s Ministry of Communications and Technology has issued a decision to suspend imports of telecommunications equipment.

A statement from the Somaliland Ministry of Communications and Technology, signed by Minister Dr. Abdiweli Sheikh Sufi Jibril, stated that the importation of all types of communication equipment has been suspended, as of  15/8/2020 until further notice.

In a press statement issued by the office of the Minister of Posts,  Telecommunications, and Technology which stated as follows:

The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and Technology in accordance with Articles 3, 5, 16 and 32 of the Republic of Somaliland Posts and Telecommunications Law No. 50, 2020 and which calls for the Maintaining the Standards and quality of the various imported equipment used to provide telecommunication services in the country, hence the decision to suspend the importation of all equipment used to provide various telecommunication services from 1/8/2020 until further notice.

We also request all relevant government agencies to assist the Ministry in implementing this order. ”
