An official from the Red Crescent Society of Somaliland participated in an international conference discussing natural disasters in Germany.

The conference was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Red Crescent Society of Germany and attended by most of the countries of the world, with the Red Crescent of Somaliland invited to participate.

Mr. Mohamed Adan Shamarke of the Red Crescent disclosed Somaliland’s participation and said that the main purpose of the meeting was to analyze the disasters caused by climate change or that can be predicted, such as drought, floods and locusts and how to prevent them.

He said that Somaliland is the only country in the Horn of Africa that is implementing the forecast-based project.

“We want Somaliland to be an example to other countries in Africa on how to implement the process to prevent droughts and floods, so our goal was to share our experience and overcome the challenges”, he said.

On the other hand, the official of the Red Crescent is reported to have given a report on the security situation in the country as well as the drought in the country.

The participants of the conference were interested in cooperating with the Red Crescent of Somaliland.
