H.E President Ahmed Mohamed Mahmoud Silanyo met with the Deputy special representative of United States of America to Somalia Mr. Brian Philips at the Presidential Palace.

President Silanyo and the Deputy special representative of United States of America to Somalia Mr. Brian Philips discussed issues pertaining democratization process, politics elections, regional security, aid and the influx of Yemeni refugees.

DSC_0077The Minister in charge of Presidential Affairs Hon Hersi Haji Ali Hassan speaking during the press conference held moments said, “Today we have met with the deputy representative of United States of America to Somalia Mr. Brian Philips who is based in Nairobi, Kenya and we had the opportunity to discuss issues regarding the democratization process in the country such as the holding of the upcoming elections and security in the region such as the conflict in Yemen and the refugees situation.

“Apart from that we had opportunity to renew and enhance future bilateral cooperation in the fields of development and the betterment of democratization process in Somaliland and in the horn of Africa”, he stated.

DSC_0085The Deputy special representative of United States of America to Somalia Mr. Brian Philips speaking during the press conference began by saying, “I am delighted to be here in Hargeisa which is a wonderful city and I would to thank both the government and people of Somaliland for their hospitality we are close development partners with the government of Somaliland and we have been for more than two decades and that will continue.

“Our interest in the prosperity and economical development in this whole region is very important to the American people likewise on security particularly at this time where we have a very difficult fighting in Yemen going on in Yemen and with already refugees begin to return and come from Yemen, it’s a very challenging time for Somaliland and we stand with Somaliland in addressing the question of refugees and the entire question of security and stability within the whole region”, said the U.S Deputy Special representative .

U.S Deputy Special representative went on to add, “We would also like to see continued cooperation between Somaliland and its neighbors to enhance security within the region and we also discussed issues regarding politics and elections and we strongly support Somaliland in its desire to hold timely, credible, free and fair elections, Somaliland has been a democracy for several decades now and has being developing strong democratic institutions and we want to continue to support that process in the future and we have had good relationship and dialogue, thank you .

The American envoy regurgitated the desires of his government of not only maintain prevalent existing bilateral relations but to strengthen them in the process.

Overall the two sides discussed issues covering such wide-ranging issues as security, commerce, politics, development, the enhancement of democracy in the horn of Africa and ways to strengthened existing diplomatic ties between the two countries.
