The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Intentional cooperation Hon Maulid Mohamed Ibrahim today at the Egal International Airport received the Italian Ambassador to Kenya.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs speaking to reporters during a press conference said, “The Italian ambassador is in the country to hold discussions with top officials in country so as to explore ways to enhance future bilateral relation between the Somaliland and Italy.

Ambassador Fabrizzio Marzellla speaking during the press conference said, “This is my first visit to Somaliland and I look forward to meet Somaliland leaders to discuss ways to enhance cooperation and bilateral relations, as you probably know the government of Italy supports and funds projects in the health, training and many other sectors.

The Italian diplomat will also participate in an international training institute of Peace and Conflict Studies-IPCS in collaboration with Italy’s Scuola Superiore Santa Ana University based in Pisa, Italy from 1st to 5th of February, 2015.

The international trading by IPCS and Italy’s Scuola Superiore Santa Ana University is expected to attract participants from Ethiopia, Djibouti, Somalia, Kenya and other countries in the region.

The University of Hargeisa (UOH)’S institute of Peace and Conflict Studies-IPCS in collaboration with Italy’s Scuola Superiore Santa Ana based in Pisa conducted a similar training in 2014 based on an international peace building course in Hargeisa, Somaliland.

Last year’s international training entitled ‘Introduction to peace building and peace operations for civilian personnel’ was financially funded by the Italian Foreign Affairs Ministry department of global affairs at UOH’s main campus.
