The National Electoral Commission (NEC) of the Republic of Somaliland has issued a statement stating that the deadline for civil servants to declare their candidacy for the upcoming House of Representatives and constituencies dated (Tuesday, March 2, 2021).

A statement from the National Electoral Commission, read as follows:

As we all know, the country is preparing for the upcoming House of Representatives and the local council due to be held on May 31, 2021.

The National Electoral Commission (NEC) has instructs would be candidates to resign their current posts as civil servants in the government.

The Electoral Law Act 91/2020 mandates serving civil servants, the national army and government agencies of any rank not to be allowed to run in the House of Representatives and local elections unless they resign within 90 days before the election are held .

Therefore, the Commission would like to inform all those who wish to take part in the May 31, 2021, House of Representatives and local council elections that the deadline for submitting their resignations is 02.03.2021 (today The statement added that the resignation must be made in writing to the office, agency or authority as required by Article 90 of Law No. 91/2020.

The National Electoral Commission (NEC) also prohibits the use of national resources for election campaigns in accordance with Article 94 of Law No. 91/2020.
