Hargeisa-02-04-2019-HE President Muse Bihi Abdi, today in his office met with the ambassadors of Denmark, Switzerland, Finland, Norway, Sweden, UK and the European Union.

The President was flanked by Vice President H.E Abdirahman Abdillahi Ismail “Saylic” and several cabinet ministers during the meeting with the visiting delegation.

The visiting delegation consisted of the Danish ambassador, Mette Knudsen, EU ambassador, Pencho Garrido Ruiz, UK ambassador, Ben Fender,  Swedish ambassador, Andreas Von Uexkull, , Norwegian ambassador, Elin Bergithe Rognilie and representatives of the Swiss and Finnish embassies in Nairobi, Kenya.

Prof Mahamoud Yassin Hiir , the minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation and Ambassador Mette Knudsen in a joint press conference had this to say.

Prof Mahamoud Yassin Hiir said, “We discussed ways to improve Somaliland ties with the neighbouring nations in the Horn. The FM said that the two sides talked about ways to exchange views on how to develop overriding issues ranging from political, trade and security.

Ambassador Mette Knudsen on her part said, “We had a very fruitful and positive talks with the President and ministers today and were here as some of the close friend of Somaliland and we have expressed our concern regarding the humanitarian situation which is caused by the prolonged drought. We also discussed the relationship between Somaliland and other nations in the horn of Africa and the commitment by the President to have to engage in dialogue with Somalia also we had the opportunity to discuss at length on the upcoming parliamentary and local governments elections.

“Being the strongest supporters of the democratization process in Somaliland, we hope the President shall find a compromise between the political actors that will pave way for the holding of elections later in the year and we have stressed that for the sake of upholding Somaliland good image in the eyes of the international community and having regular elections”, she said.

Ambassador Mette Knudsen added,“Therefore it’s imperative that all political actors to work together and find a political compromise so as to find a way to hold elections this year and we that as an important part and making sure there is a strong dynamic politic situation whereby strong development plans can be developed and implemented to the benefits of the people of Somaliland and created by the Somaliland actors.
