The Government of Somaliland executed 6 persons earlier today the second time since the current administration came to power.

The six convicts were executed by firing squads in Daraweyne , Mandera and Borame town.

Some of the 6 convicts executed today were tried by Somaliland military courts for a broad range of crimes.

Most countries consider capital punishment to be a cruel and inhuman practice, which fails to provide deterrence to criminal behaviour and represents an unacceptable denial of human dignity and integrity.  Any miscarriage of justice – which can occur in any legal system – is irreversible.

However, there are a few countries which still apply and implement the death penalty, including Somaliland.
