PRESS RELEASE

On Wednesday 2 April, Sheffield City Council will debate a motion calling on “the British government to recognise Somaliland as an independent state and to encourage other governments around the world to do the same.”

This historic debate will be attended by Somaliland’s Foreign Minister Mohamed Bihi Yonis, Energy Minister Hussein Abdi Dualeh, Speaker of Parliament Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi, Somaliland’s Ambassador to the UK Ali Aden Awale as well as several parliamentarians.

The motion was tabled by Councillor Mohammad Maroof who today received over 2,000 signatures from the Somaliland community in Sheffield, petitioning the council to support recognition.

On Friday 4 April, Sheffield Central MP Paul Blomfield (Lab) will be speaking at ISRAAC: Somali Community and Cultural Association in support of Somaliland’s case for recognition.

Sheffield South East MP Clive Betts (Lab) has also expressed his support for Somaliland’s independence. In 2009 he asked the FCO to “work with other members of the EU, with the United States and with members of the African Union to see how we can get recognition for Somaliland.”

  1. KUDOS to Sheffield City Council,

As a Somalilander living in a very far away land from UK, I salute you a million times for your courageous move on deciding to debate a motion calling on the British government to recognise Somaliland as an independent State and on top of that, to encourage other governments around the world to do the same. That is leadership at it's BEST.
I believe I can FLY, I believe I can touch the SKY, I believe in SOMALILAND.

  2. I lough saw hard that u hergarso people post this cand of article and then I feel saw sad iam sorry go read why Kosovo is not recognize yet even thou American support that. Chech whats happening Ukraine

    • I wonder which school did you go to learn English? First, go back to your teacher and ask him to teach you how to write better and correctly in English. In the meantime, I advise you to write in somali only bcz ppl can at least understand what you say. This is how my city is written by the way:"Hargeysa or Hargeisa" but not what you wrote up there.
Saxiib af somali iskaga hadal oo ku qor, ceeb maaha "ma garanayo English". Peace out!

  3. I've never seen people worshiping the english man like isaaqs do. 2,000 signatures? What a joke hahaha. That ethiopian girl who got raped in sudan had over 26,000 signatures online. and we talking about silaanyo getting involved, the muppets so called ministers running after 2,000 signatures that were waved by 200 qat chewers but each with 10 different identities 🙂

I can get 500 real people off my social networking sites connections, i bet i will make silaanyo kiss my feet!!!

    • Don't worry babay,

We will find the reason and it;s justices. If you say wrong, you never win. Just wait a few, we raise our hand together and singing 'the national sonng.

    • HOOYADAA SIILANYO SIILKA KA WAS MAR DANBE HADAAD WAX KA SHEEGTO SIILANYO AFKAAN DHULKA KAAGA TAAGATAYAA XAAR YOW

  4. Worshiping the English man? Same could be said about Islam worshiping an Arab man or the rantings of an Arab man. Of an Arab god that requires that your women are worth half that of a man. At least the west has ideas of equality built in to their laws so much so that even so called Muslims are running and begging for asylum.

Why do you think the world is running to the west? Why arnt people of all backgrounds trying to get into turkey or Saudi Arabia or Iran or Malaysia etc? bc they Su ck!

    • aad iyo aad ayeeeeey i farxad gali say markii aan arkay arin ka waa na so dhawwenayaaaaaaaaaaaa

  6. cheers!!!!!!!!!!!!!! congratulation UK Sheffield somalilanders community have done marvelous work .“I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do.”

  7. Congratulations to all Somalilanders where ever they are in the world. Sheffield City Coucil has one hell of a courageous and progressive leadership.

On another note for disgruntled JAMAAL, keep looking up the sky…..all you will see is SOMALILAND wings flying. I don't need to LAND yet adeer. I am too over excited to pull my landing gear down for Landing. I don't believe anymore, but actually flying already up above the clouds which you will never see I promise, due to your heart that is full of sorrow.

U farxa umada walaalihiin ee wanaagsan ee howsheeda qabsaday iyaga oo waliba waxa yar ee ay haystaan ee ay isku maamulaan, mar walba oo aad gaajootaan wax yar oo aan ka go'in si sharafleh idiin siisa.
