The Chairman of national Association of Local Authorities Government, ALGASAL, who is also the mayor of the Hargeisa Cllr. Abdikarim Ahmed Mooge, said that they are planning to make the organization a big one that provides many services, without dependence on funding from foreign organizations.

Mayor Abdikarim was addressing the conference of the ALGASAL organization held on Monday 19th Dec in Hargeisa.

In defense of aspirations to be self-sufficient, the chairman pointed out that this time round ALGASAL has convened its own summit where the previous norm they were being sponsored by donors.

He reminded the participating mayors at the meeting that their umbrella association had immensely made ample donations when fire razed down Waaheen market, the biggest fire tragedy in the nation’s history.

He hoped that in the future the organization would fledge and be quite effective.

He underpinned the fact that as they tread on a self-sufficiency path, their resolutions would be concretely more independent and tangibly aligned with the organization’s needs and aspirations.

He said that the discussions of the conference are related to the work of the local authority’s governmental modalities function, and hence they were looking forward to see sustainable solutions emerge.
