Washington, 28 June 2009 (Somalilandcurrent) — The Problems plaguing Somalia show no sign of abating in the near future.

It seems that every other day there has been a Bomb Explosion in Mogadishu killing dozens of people or requests made by the Transitional Government for Assistance have been falling on Deaf Ears.

Is there any hope for the Horn of Africa?

For Almost 20 years Somalia has been in a State of Anarchy. Two Previous Attempts by the United Nations to restore a functioning Government have failed and currently a third attempt is not promising.

Piracy has been a Major Concern amongst the International Community as the Gulf of Aden is a Chokepoint amongst the Shipping Lanes of the World.

Islamic Militants who have been linked to both Al-Qaida and Eritrea have been battling Government Forces in and around the Capital Mogadishu. And in recent day days in a High Profile Incident 4 thieves suffered Cross Amputation for their Crimes.

As a result of the latest fighting 250 people have reportedly been killed and 170,000 have been displaced. The US Government has seen fit to send 10 tons of Arms to support the Somali Government.

The Crisis in Somalia seems to be getting worse.

In the near future a Conference will be held in Washington, DC regarding the Future of Somalia.

What is interesting is for the First Time Somaliland will be asked to attend. However they will not attend due to the fact that they have been invited as a Province of Somalia not as an Independent State which they claim to be.

In another Interesting Fact Kenya, Ethiopia and Djibouti were not invited to take part in the Washington Conference.

For Several Years now the Somaliland Region has been attempting to have the Independent Community state that they are a Country. In 1998 the Somali Government tried to prevent the region from seceding by Force but was unsuccessful.

After a Meeting with US Officals at the Embassy in Nairobi the Somaliland leadership decided not to attend because their concerns would not be on the Agenda. That is a Legitimate Concern.

The Leaders in Hargeysa don’t want to be lumped into a Solution that may end up being a detriment to Somaliland. After all the Region will be announcing which companies were able to purchase Gas and Oil Exploration contracts this fall. The region does not have a problem with Piracy either.

In the Long Run the US may be making an Error by not increasing contacts with Hargeysa. On this note the Obama Administration deserves some praise. Unlike Previous Administrations they have been talking to Somaliland.

  1. There seems to be a problem with our third-party commenting system, we will give them few days to fix this, if this problems continue we will go back to our old normal commenting system. Please be patient we have not disabled and we are aware of this issue.

If you register I believe you can comment.

    Thank you.

  2. I can't believe the US still doing the same mistake of mixing Somaliland with Somalia. This only increases the problem in Somalia and won't serve the interest of Somalilnad at all.

  3. this is clearly valid point, but, anyway, who cares such realities on the earth in recent days.

  4. speaking of foriegners, if "somalilanders" so greatly wish to go back to the slave days of british colonialism they can, simply live in england!, im sure the british wont mind having a few extra labourers. but as long as the dhulbahante and warsangali clans dominate a vast space of what you call "somaliland", there wont be no such thing as seccesion. be sure of that 🙂

  5. First I’m very proud Somaliland minister to decline this invitation and we all knew this meeting was not about Somaliland. It looks like as USA attempt to restore government in Somalia they want to use Somaliland as a tool. We all know Somaliland people will not tolerate any disrespect toward the country or the people. Someone who has enough experience to analyze the political view of east Africa, I would say if America would like to succeed for the third time to restore Somali gornment they would recognize Somaliland as a government.

  6. absolutly i do agree with my minster to decline dis invitation n every body knw dis wz nt abt somaliland at all so no need 2 show up dat meeting as a somalialnders…im really proud dat deccesion….hwever if international cummunity wants 2 secceed to estabilish strong somaliland nation dey hve 2 recongnize somaliland as a independce country cose somaliland hve edueqte experience abt dis problm…….GOD BLESS SOMALILAND 4 EVER

  7. There will be nothing along the lines of seccession anytime soon, or ever. I believe firstly, that this whole site is biased and speaks as a mouth-piece for 'Somaliland' independace.

As my sane Somali above said. If you want to be pro-british and create A WHOLE COUNTRY under the name of a fake Colonial identity, go to England..Furthermore, I want to assure you that sanctions will be put on Somaliland which are much worse than the Diplomatic isolation you are in now..

Isn't 19years enough to tell you that independance is unlikely?

  8. There is no Somaliland, rather there is an entity called Somaliland created by the Ethiopians for their own self-interest to keep Somalia divided forever. This so called Somaliland, just like other subservient Puntland, is similar to the creation of Bantustans during the Apartheid years. The stupidity of the leadership in these so called autonomous areas of Somalia is the that they hate each other, but are both subservient to interest of the Tigre regime in Addis. Yes Mogadishu is unstable, but the proud people of Mogadishu said no to the Tigre hegemony.

  9. there is nothing called somaliland, all of somalia is somaliland get the picture foools
