TAIPEI, Taiwan – In a significant move to bolster bilateral financial cooperation, the Republic of Somaliland’s Diplomatic Mission in Taiwan recently hosted a high-level delegation from Taiwan’s Central Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC).
The visit, led by CDIC Chairman Dr. Tien-Mu Thomas Huang, marks a deepening of institutional ties following the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the CDIC and the Bank of Somaliland.
Chairman Huang was joined by a senior leadership team, including CDIC President Ms. Annie Cheng, Executive Vice President Ms. Yvonne Y. Fan, and Ms. Margaret Chuang, Director of the International Relations & Research Office. The delegation was welcomed by Somaliland’s diplomatic representatives for a series of high-level discussions aimed at operationalizing their new partnership.
A Framework for Financial Stability
The recently inked MoU establishes a formal framework designed to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and professional experience. Specifically, the two institutions will collaborate on enhancing deposit insurance systems, improving depositor protection protocols, and maintaining overall financial stability.
During the meeting, officials held what was described as a “highly productive and wide-ranging” discussion. Topics included explored opportunities for further cooperation and the implementation of best practices within Somaliland’s banking sector.
Broadening Bilateral Relations
The growing partnership between the CDIC and the Bank of Somaliland is seen as a pivotal development in the technical and economic relationship between Hargeisa and Taipei.
”We greatly value our growing relationship with CDIC and look forward to a strong, lasting, and increasingly substantive partnership,” the Somaliland Mission stated in a release. “This growing institutional cooperation in the financial sector represents another important dimension of the broader and steadily deepening relationship between the Republic of Somaliland and Taiwan.”
As both nations continue to seek international recognition and economic resilience, this collaboration in the financial sector serves as a cornerstone for future joint initiatives, signaling a commitment to secure and transparent financial governance.
