Hargeisa – The Office of the Accountant General of the Republic of Somaliland has issued a press release addressing recent media reports concerning the Government’s Financial Closing Report for the 2025 Fiscal Year, clarifying the facts and rejecting allegations of financial irregularities.
According to the statement, the Office submitted the Government’s Financial Closing Report for the 2025 fiscal year to the Auditor General on April 28, 2026, in accordance with its legal mandates, thereby enabling the Auditor General to fulfill statutory duties and issue an official audit opinion.
The press release emphasized that, as stated in the Auditor General’s official report, the Consolidated Government Financial Statement for the period from January 1 to December 31, 2025—submitted by the Accountant General to the Auditor General—contained no errors, ambiguities, or financial irregularities and was prepared in compliance with applicable financial laws and procedures.
Furthermore, the Office clarified that the Auditor General’s official report contains no findings supporting media allegations that the Office of the Accountant General authorized financial vouchers lacking legally required supporting documentation.
The statement also noted that the Audit Report comprised two distinct sections: the Consolidated Financial Closing Statement prepared by the Accountant General, and the Performance Audit Report of Government Institutions, which is compiled independently by the Auditor General.
Reiterating its firm commitment to safeguarding state assets and public funds, ensuring accounting accuracy, adhering to financial regulations, and enhancing transparency and fiscal accountability, the Office of the Accountant General called on the media and the public to base coverage of state financial management on verified official data and legal documents. It further noted its readiness to share relevant documentation with legally authorized institutions and stakeholders.
