Borama, Awdal Region — Borama University has held its graduation ceremony for the Class of 2026 in the city of Borama, the administrative capital of the Awdal Region, marking a significant milestone for one of the region’s leading institutions of higher learning.

The ceremony brought together students, families, faculty, and community members to honor the academic achievements of the graduating class. It also underscored the growing role of Boorama University in advancing higher education, including postgraduate studies, in the Awdal Region and across Somaliland.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the ruling party Hon. Hersi Ali Haji Hassan expressed profound pride at taking part in the ceremony, describing it as a great honor. He noted that earlier in May of this year, he completed his academic program and successfully defended a Master’s thesis in Public Administration and Management, becoming one of the postgraduate candidates to fulfill all requirements for the degree.

Hersi also extended special congratulations to his wife, Gudoon Hashi Dharaar, who was among the students receiving degrees at today’s ceremony. Gudoon distinguished herself in the field of health sciences, adding a personal note of celebration to the family’s achievements on this occasion. Beyond the individual milestone, he offered warm and broad congratulations to all fellow graduates, acknowledging the shared effort, dedication, and perseverance that carried the class through to completion.

Addressing the relationship between education and peace, Hersi stated: “Knowledge is key, and peace and security that make it possible to acquire it are the two most important things.” He emphasized that peace is a prerequisite for education and called on all Somalilanders to work together to maintain stability so that students can pursue their studies and society can advance through knowledge.
