HARGEISA– The Somaliland National Electoral Commission (NEC), spearheaded by Chairman Muse Hassan Yusuf, met with a high-level Taiwanese diplomatic delegation today to finalize technical strategies regarding the nation’s upcoming democratic cycles. The delegation was led by the Taiwan Representative to Somaliland, Ambassador Allen Chenhwa Lou, accompanied by Deputy Representative Allison H.C. Chao.
The central pillar of the discussion was the ongoing implementation of the **Integrated Electoral Management System (IEMS). This sophisticated technological framework is designed to streamline Somaliland’s voter registration and ensure the highest standards of data integrity. Ambassador Lou reaffirmed Taiwan’s commitment to providing both technical expertise and material support to ensure the system’s success.
Chairman Yusuf extended his formal gratitude to the Government of Taiwan, characterizing them as a “cornerstone partner” in Somaliland’s democratic evolution. He specifically lauded Taiwan’s instrumental role in the successful execution of the 2021 combined Parliamentary and Local Council elections and highlighted their continued support as the nation prepares for the pivotal 2024 Presidential Election.
The meeting underscores a deepening bilateral relationship rooted in shared democratic values and a mutual commitment to transparent, technology-driven governance in the Horn of Africa.
