Washington D.C. – The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro), held an important meeting in Washington D.C. with the Somaliland diaspora community residing in North America, particularly in the United States.
The President was accompanied at the meeting by the First Lady of Somaliland, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ministers, and senior officials of the Somaliland government.
The President expressed his gratitude to the diaspora for their significant role in nation-building, community welfare, investment, economic growth, strengthening the Somaliland cause, and pursuing international recognition.
The President noted that the relationship between Somaliland and the United States is a long-standing one, pointing out that the people of Somaliland have a long history in diplomacy, trade, and engagement with the world. He stated that the purpose of his trip and the meetings he held in Washington D.C. was for Somaliland to directly present to the world its reality, its development, its security, its democracy, and its desire to be recognized for its historical and legal rights.
The President shared with the diaspora the outcomes of the diplomatic meetings and engagements that he and his delegation held in Washington D.C., stating that they produced goodwill, confidence, and hope regarding the strengthening of relations, recognition, and investment in Somaliland.
On the other hand, the President called upon the diaspora to unite, come together, and play their part in the peacebuilding and stabilization of their country, urging them to avoid anything that incites conflict and fraternal strife.
The President expressed his deep gratitude to the U.S. Government, Congress, the Senate, and the major influential agencies and institutions with which he held meetings, noting that Somaliland values its growing relations and the new opportunities for cooperation that have emerged from Washington D.C.
In conclusion, the President of the Republic of Somaliland noted that the recognition of Somaliland will complete every hardship endured, urging the diaspora to remain united, to be present for their country, to represent it in every forum and platform, to defend the Somaliland cause, and to protect their nation.
