Health Professions Commission Holds Key Meeting on Service Quality and Sector Development

The National Electoral Commission (NEC), in its commitment to ensuring that elections are held on time, shared three different options with the Three National Political Parties and the Government in May 2025 on how to conduct the voter registration, along with technical reports prepared by international companies on the system and data for the national voter registration.
The National Electoral Commission, in upholding the transparency of its work for the nation, submitted three types of registration methods to the Three National Political Parties, to solicit national input; these three methods are ones the National Electoral Commission had previously presented to the country in the years 2016, 2021, and 2023.
The Three National Political Parties and the Government held meetings for a period of seven months, from June to December 2025, in order to reach a unified consensus. During this period, the National Electoral Commission held various separate meetings with the Three National Political Parties and the Government to mediate and reach a unified national consensus.
After this lengthy period, the Three National Political Parties individually submitted their opinions to the National Electoral Commission, which contained differing views.
The National Electoral Commission, in strict accordance with Articles 17, 46, and 47 of the General Elections and Voter Registration Act, Law No. 91/2023, hereby issues the following provisions.
Decision of the National Electoral Commission (NEC)
The National Electoral Commission, after deliberating and considering the proposals and opinions of the Three National Political Parties regarding the registration system and the timely conduct of elections, and considering Article 47, Section 4 of the General Elections and Voter Registration Act, Law No. 91/2023, which states: “For the revision of the voter register before any election, the Commission shall determine the system and manner of the revision,”
The National Electoral Commission has today, on the 24th of December 2025, decided that the registration system shall be as follows:
To use the existing voter registration data, by conducting a registration update.
The registration update shall consist, in accordance with the law, of:
· Registering all citizens who have reached voting age or who have not previously registered.
· Reissuing cards for all persons who have lost their voter cards.
· Changing polling stations for all persons wishing to change their polling station.
The registration update shall be conducted from 500 centers across the districts and regions of the country.
To perform a cleanup of the existing registration data, following the technical recommendations provided by the experts who independently audited the registration data.
The cleanup and registration process shall be transparent, with the participation of the Three National Political Parties.
Finally, the National Electoral Commission shall conduct a simulation exercise across the country by the end of January 2026, and simultaneously release the work schedule for the commencement of registration and the conduct of the elections in accordance with the laws of the country.
Hargeisa – The Director-General of the Bank of Somaliland (BoSL), Mr. Yassin Jama Ahmed, joined the National Committee for the Reconstruction of the Waaheen Market today to inspect the ongoing construction progress. The project is financed by the Central Bank.
The joint visit focused on assessing the new Livestock and Vegetable Market section within the Waaheen Market complex, which is administered by the local government.
During the tour, the delegation received detailed briefings from the construction firm, Daryeel Construction, and the project consultant, SEMA Consultants. Both companies provided comprehensive updates, confirming the project is advancing according to schedule. Construction is currently in its 81st day and is reported to be 20% complete.
The inspection concluded with remarks from the Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments of Somaliland, Mr. Sheikh Abdullahi Dahir Jama (Bashe).
Berbera, December 22, 2025 – A high-level delegation from the Ethiopian Federal Government today conducted a working visit to the Port of Berbera and the Berbera oil storage terminal. The delegation inspected the port’s infrastructure, operational procedures, and oil storage capacity, with particular focus on the strategic role of the Port of Berbera in facilitating regional trade and supporting the broader economy of the region.
Officials from relevant Somaliland government departments and representatives from DP World, who received the delegation at the key sites visited, provided detailed explanations on the ongoing development of the port, the expansion of its services, and how it can contribute to strengthening financial and commercial cooperation between Somaliland and Ethiopia.
Hargeisa – The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Cirro), today inaugurated the Livestock Trade and Production Conference at the Grand Haadi Hotel in Hargeisa.
This first-of-its-kind conference focused on the livestock sector in Somaliland was organized to a high standard by the Ministry of Livestock and Pastoral Development, in collaboration with its partner agencies and organizations. The conference will run for two days.
This national forum brought together all diverse stakeholders involved in the livestock trade and development sector. The Director General, Mr. Ahmed Osman Jama (Talo-same), and the Minister of Livestock and Pastoral Development, H.E. Dr. Omar Shucayb Mohamed, delivered speeches and expert presentations. They provided comprehensive details on the conference’s objectives, which are to showcase the real potential of Somaliland’s livestock and to strengthen the care, production, trade, and marketing chain for live animals.
Furthermore, the Minister and the Director General emphasized that this conference genuinely encourages innovation, improves livestock production, and opens new business opportunities to increase income, job creation, and the economic development of the Republic of Somaliland.
In his keynote address at the Livestock Trade and Production Conference, the President extended his gratitude and commendation to the senior officials, staff of the Ministry of Livestock, and the agencies and individuals who made the conference possible.
The President stated that livestock are the foundation of the country’s economy, a symbol of our heritage and culture, and the cornerstone of life and unique livelihood for the people of Somaliland.
The President underscored that live animals are central to the country’s production output (GDP) and the backbone of the hard currency we earn from livestock exports.
The President noted that every Somalilander, in their daily life, witnesses the importance livestock hold for us.
On another note, the President affirmed that it is imperative to make a significant shift from our traditional livestock husbandry methods, which can no longer withstand the living conditions our livestock now face, particularly environmental degradation, recurring droughts, and the impacts of Global Climate Change. The President stated that the Government has begun taking many steps to address the problems and challenges facing the Livestock Trade and Production sector.
The President highlighted that the Government is committed to:
Developing modern livestock farming systems,
Creating new grazing regulations for all regions of the country,
Caring for and expanding rangelands,
Environmental conservation,
Resilience against Climate Change,
Controlling livestock diseases.

The Taiwan Representative Office in the Republic of Somaliland has issued a sharp rebuke to recent comments by Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who suggested in a China Global Television Network (CGTN) interview that China possesses the military capacity to forcibly “bring back” Taiwan.
In the interview segment aired on December 21, 2025, President Mohamud expressed support for China’s positions amid discussions on bilateral ties, marking the 65th anniversary of Somalia-China diplomatic relations. He highlighted China’s role as a reliable partner in infrastructure, security, and development.
The Taiwan Representative Office responded firmly, stating:
“We reiterate that the Republic of China (Taiwan) is a sovereign and independent country and that neither the Republic of China (Taiwan) nor the People’s Republic of China (PRC) is subordinate to the other.”
The office emphasized that maintaining freedom, security, peace, and stability in the Indo-Pacific region represents a broad international consensus. It accused China of engaging in “unilateral military provocations, suppressive actions, and grey zone tactics” that threaten Taiwan’s democracy and regional stability, with potential global ramifications.
The statement urged the Somali government to prioritize its own national development and internal challenges rather than aligning with China’s geopolitical stance:
“We urge the Somalia government to focus on its national development and other internal priorities, not to be China’s cheerleader in geopolitical competition. Echoing China’s warring rhetoric achieves nothing but undermines international peace, stability, and trust.”
The office reaffirmed Taiwan’s commitment to upholding universal values of democracy and working with allies and like-minded nations to preserve regional and global stability, despite what it described as political coercion, diplomatic suppression, and distortive propaganda from the Chinese Communist Party.
Hargeisa — Former President of the Republic of Somaliland, Muse Bihi Abdi, has addressed the recent legal disagreement between the Chairman of the ruling Kulmiye party, Mohamed Kaahin Ahmed, and the Chairman of the party’s Central Committee, Mahmoud Jama Warfa. Muse Bihi called on both sides to suspend or halt the separate meetings they have been holding.
Speaking on the matter, Muse Bihi stated that social media has been widely circulating legal debates between the two officials in recent days, and he insisted that such meetings should be paused until a resolution is reached.
“Recently, social media has been dominated by a legal debate between Kulmiye Party Chairman Mohamed Kaahin Ahmed and Mahmoud Jama Warfa. I urge both chairmen to suspend the meetings they are convening,” said the former President.
He noted that the Kulmiye party has previously been known for resolving internal matters through dialogue, discussion, and mutual understanding, and he emphasized that the current disagreement is not severe.
Furthermore, he affirmed that the issues currently facing the party will be addressed collectively, and the legal dispute between the two sides will be resolved through lawful means.
Hargeisa – The Director-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mohamed Abdirahman Hassan, opened a meeting emphasizing the Ministry’s role in steering foreign policy and the necessity for a Whole-of-Government Approach to protect national interests in a unified manner.
The Director-General stated that the implementation of effective results and full coordination among government institutions leads to national interests becoming unified and jointly protected.
During the meeting, participating institutions presented their roles related to external relations, specifically trade and investment, travel and border security, the environment and climate change, education, the role of the diaspora, and youth development.
The Directors-General of the Ministries of Investment, Defense, and Sports, who addressed the meeting, pledged to actively play their part in the issues discussed.
The discussions called for strengthening the importance of effective international cooperation and internal collaboration.
In conclusion, the meeting highlighted the need for continuous institutional coordination and strengthening international linkages. It was announced that a follow-up meeting will be held in three months to evaluate the implementation of the agreed-upon points.
Hargeisa – The Ministry of Agricultural Development of the Republic of Somaliland and the Embassy of Taiwan in Somaliland today signed an agricultural project agreement (Seed Industry Development Project), which will be jointly implemented by the Ministry of Agricultural Development and the TaiwanICDF office.
This project, which opens a new chapter of collaboration, was signed by the Minister of Agriculture, Mohamoud Egge Yuusuf, and the Ambassador of Taiwan to Somaliland, Allen Lou.
The agreement took place at the office of the Minister of Agriculture in Hargeisa and was attended by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Mukhtaar Haji Muhumed Farah, and the Director of the Planning Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Ibraahim Omar. From Taiwan, the Ambassador was accompanied by officials, including the Deputy Ambassador and other members such as Sharmarke Garaad.
MOGADISHU — Somalia and China commemorated the 65th anniversary of their diplomatic relations on Tuesday with a shared commitment to strengthen cooperation and advance mutual interests in the years ahead.
In a ceremony held in the nation’s capital, Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre hailed the milestone as a reflection of deep and lasting friendship. “We gather today to honor a truly historic achievement: 65 years of diplomatic ties between Somalia and China,” he said. “This anniversary is a testament to an enduring bond between our peoples—forged in mutual respect, sovereignty, and common understanding.”
Since establishing relations in 1960, Barre noted, the two countries have journeyed together through evolving global landscapes, supporting one another through times of progress and challenge alike.
“For decades, China has stood as a steadfast partner—one that honors our independence, aligns with our national priorities, and invests in our future,” the Prime Minister stated.
He pointed to concrete outcomes of the partnership across critical sectors: “Our cooperation has delivered real and meaningful results. It has fueled infrastructure development, bolstered health and education systems, enhanced public services and institutional capacity, and provided vital humanitarian aid when it was most needed.”
Chinese Ambassador to Somalia Wang Yu underscored the historic significance of the bilateral relationship, which began on December 14, 1960. “That year marked Somalia’s independence, and China was among the first nations to recognize the new state,” Wang said. “Somalia, in turn, became the first East African country to establish diplomatic relations with China.”
The Ambassador thanked Somalia for its consistent support of the One-China principle and reaffirmed China’s unwavering commitment to Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
“The friendship between China and Somalia,” Wang added, “remains a powerful example of how mutually beneficial cooperation can foster shared growth and development.”
