STUTTGART, Germany – August 2, 2026 – A high-level delegation from the Ministry of Defense and National Security of the Republic of Somaliland, led by the Minister, H.E. Mohamed Yusuf Ali, alongside the Commander of the Somaliland Coast Guard, Admiral Ahmed Hurre Hariye, held a pivotal meeting today with officials from the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) at the command’s headquarters in Germany.
The Somaliland delegation, which is currently on a working visit to the Federal Republic of Germany, engaged in comprehensive discussions with AFRICOM leadership focused on key strategic priorities.
The talks centered on the following critical agenda items:
- Strengthening Defense Cooperation: Enhancing bilateral defense ties and advancing the strategic partnership between the Republic of Somaliland and the United States.
- Maritime Security Collaboration: Securing international waterways, with a particular focus on the Bab al-Mandab Strait and the Red Sea, countering maritime threats, and promoting peace and stability across the Horn of Africa region.
The Somaliland delegation also included Senior Advisor Mr. Farah Ahmed Haboush and Expert Mr. Abdulaziz Ahmed.
Following productive deliberations and an extensive exchange of views, the meeting concluded with a mutual understanding and a joint agreement to further solidify bilateral cooperation. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to accelerating collaborative efforts in defense, security, and institutional capacity-building for security agencies, with the overarching goal of reinforcing regional stability, safeguarding maritime security, and ensuring the safety of global shipping lanes.
