HARGEISA – August 1, 2026 – The Standing and Ethics Committee of Somaliland’s House of Representatives convened a formal hearing today with representatives of a professional civil society organization, during which the delegation submitted a formal complaint regarding grievances affecting their professional activities.
The meeting was chaired by the Committee Chairman, Hon. Mahmoud Hayir Du’ale, alongside committee members and staff. The civil society representatives presented a comprehensive account of the challenges they have encountered, outlining the specific obstacles they face and proposing potential legal remedies for the issues raised. They further appealed to the Committee to exercise its constitutional mandate—to hear, assess, and refer their grievances to the appropriate authorities with a view to reaching a lasting resolution.
In response, Committee members posed detailed questions to the delegation to verify the information and substantiate the claims made. The representatives answered all queries thoroughly and transparently.
Chairman Du’ale commended the organization for choosing the lawful avenue of bringing their concerns before the legislature. He emphasized that the Committee is duty-bound to receive public complaints, investigate matters brought to its attention, and ensure they are handled in strict compliance with the Constitution and national laws.
The Chairman also affirmed that the Committee will conduct a rigorous review of the submitted complaint and take all necessary measures to ensure that the issues are addressed equitably, while safeguarding the rights and interests of the citizens involved.
