Hargeisa, 13 April 2026 (WM&HDh) – A high-level delegation comprising representatives from the World Bank, the Ministers of Finance and Economic Development, the Presidency, Transport and Road Development, the Mayor of Hargeisa, and the Director General of the Ministry of Finance convened for an important meeting at the Central Pavilion of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development of Somaliland.
The meeting focused on accelerating road development projects supported by the World Bank in the Republic of Somaliland. Key projects discussed include the SHIIP project, which aims to develop the road connecting Hargeisa and the Ina Guuxa Corridor, and the SURP-II project, which seeks to enhance road infrastructure in the capital city, Hargeisa, in collaboration with the Hargeisa Local Government.
During the meeting, discussions specifically covered the following:
· Review of the readiness status for project implementation and the identification of actionable steps to expedite their completion.
· Participatory consultation and knowledge exchange to validate the citywide flood risk management assessment.
· In-depth deliberation on the implementation of the road linking the Hargeisa–Ina Guuxa Corridor.
· Scheduling of follow-up field visits for the Corridor road and the SURP-II project.
In conclusion, participants agreed on the critical importance of accelerating the implementation of these projects while strengthening collaboration between government institutions and the World Bank.
