The Ministry of Energy and Minerals has announced a reduction cost of using electricity services, and informed the Las Anod power company to comply.

A press release issued by the Ministry of Energy on Thursday said its goal is to provide the community with affordable, reliable electricity, which is key to social development and business growth.

According to the joint statement, released by ESRES and LESCO recently launched a project to build a 1,800 kWp solar power plant.

The Ministry of Energy said in order to extend the project’s benefits to the public; it has issued a decision to reduce electricity prices from March 1, to 0.50 per hour per house, and 0.50 per hour for small businesses. 0.30 per hour for well as large businesses and other sectors the price of electricity has been reduced.

The statement thanked the British government for funding the ESRES project and called on the Somaliland Electricity Commission to ensure compliance with LESCO’s decision.

The UK aid-funded Energy Security and Resource Efficiency in Somaliland (ESRES) programme aims to improve access to affordable electricity for communities by diversifying energy sources through the promotion of renewables and the development of an appropriate policy and regulatory framework. ESRES is now in its second phase.
