The Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia H.E. Omar Abdirashid Sharmarke expressed his shock by the large loss of life of all immigrants, in particular the youth of Somalia in the Mediterranean Sea.

“I am deeply shocked at the emergence of this sad and disaster news. I convey my deep condolences to the families who have lost loved ones, and to the deceased may Allah SWT rest their souls in peace “said the Prime Minister who also sent his condolences to the other nations who have lost many in this tragedy.

“The youth who are the future and hope of this nation continue to flee to Europe in search of better opportunities, which I believe my Government is working hard and doing its best to create in Somalia. Hence I continue to urge the youth of this country to stop this dangerous journey of death” said Prime Minister Sharmarke.

The Prime Minister reiterated that his government is actively involved in giving priority to education and job creation for the youth.

“There are numerous opportunities existing and emerging in the country hence the youth should deviate from pursuing this unwarranted journey. Ironically the Somali Diaspora are coming back to their country to be part of its rebuilding and revitalizing thus contradicting the notion of fleeing. I strongly advise the youth to make use of the available opportunities in order to better and expand for the future” insisted Prime Minister Sharmarke.

Finally the Prime Minister once again expressed his deep sorrow and called on his government and the people of Somalia to work together in ending this unfortunate tragedy.
