The Vice President H.E. Abdirahman Abdillahi Ismail (Sayli’i) and the Minister of Energy and Minerals Hon. Abdillahi Farah Abdi high profile meeting on Saturday 22 October 2022 with the top officials of OPIC Oil Drilling Company of Taiwan.

 

The discussions between the two parties were said to be the most intense as concerns OPIC’s plan to drill the country’s first oil well in 2023.

 

The VP was flanked by Hon. Abdillahi who was accompanied by Mr. Ibrahim Yusuf (Advisor to the Minister of Energy) and Mr. Ahmed Adam (Director of the Petroleum Department of the Ministry of Energy), while the executives of the Taiwanese oil company were accompanied by the Ambassador of Taiwan to Somaliland, Director of OPIC Somaliland Ms. Hsiang Chen Lin and Mr. Hsuan Jui Hsu (Chief Geologist OPIC).

On the other hand, a message was released on the website of the Taiwanese embassy in Somaliland which shed light on the prospectus’

It read:-

“It is prospective that Taiwan OPIC & Genel Energy’s exploration in Somaliland is drilling an oil well to bring more foreign investors. This index of investment also indicates that SMD fully controls its sovereignty and land resources which is pivotal to bring more investment.”
