The chairman of the Supreme Court and chairman of the Judiciary Committee of the Republic of Somaliland, Adan Haji Ali, has warned the country’s judiciary not to indulge in the country’s political activities.

A statement from Somaliland’s Supreme Court said they would exclude the law and the judiciary officials from competing in local, parliamentary and presidential election campaigns.

He was informed that any member of the judiciary, who is interested in joining local councils and House of Representatives, should resign 90 days before the election.

The statement read:

“In a decree dated, 25/02/2021, the Chairman of the Supreme Court and Judiciary Committee of the Republic of Somaliland, Judge Adam Haji Ali Ahmed, advises the staff of the Supreme Court and regional courts against participating in political activities in the elections.

With the exception of the law and the rules of the judicial system, competition in local, parliamentary and presidential election campaigns.

On May 16, the chairman of the country’s Supreme Court issued a circular to all chairmen of the appellate courts and deputy attorneys general of the country’s provinces informing them of the ban on participating in political activities in the elections.

He was informed that any member of the judiciary, who is interested in joining local councils and representatives, should resign 90 days before the election.

Any member who does not comply with the order will face legal action, “said a statement from the office of the chairman of the Somaliland Supreme Court.
