Hargeisa – In a decisive move to advance sustainable urban development, the Ministry of Energy and Minerals of the Republic of Somaliland (JSL) has held a pivotal strategic dialogue with DT Global, the international firm tasked with executing the multi-sectoral Sinaan Program. This ambitious initiative is currently driving transformative environmental and infrastructural changes across the municipalities of Burco and Wajaale.
The high-level consultative meeting, steered by the Ministry’s Director General, was convened with the primary objective of supercharging the partnership between the government body and DT Global. Both parties engaged in in-depth discussions aimed at streamlining operational frameworks and removing bureaucratic hurdles to ensure seamless project delivery.
While the Sinaan Program encompasses a broad spectrum of urban rehabilitation—including large-scale afforestation drives, the introduction of modernized solid waste collection and recycling systems, and the installation of energy-efficient street lighting—the talks placed a strategic spotlight on the renewable energy component. Officials underscored the critical need to fast-track the deployment of sustainable power solutions that will not only illuminate the streets of Burco and Wajaale but also reduce the cities’ carbon footprint.
Emphasizing a long-term vision, the Director General reiterated the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that the Sinaan Program evolves into a benchmark for eco-friendly urban management. The ultimate goal, as reaffirmed during the meeting, is to create a holistic, self-sustaining model that generates lasting socio-economic dividends—improving public safety through better lighting, fostering cleaner neighborhoods through effective waste reduction, and planting the seeds for a greener, more resilient environment that future generations can inherit with pride.
