In a well attended ceremony, the Somaliland Minister of Interior and Internal Security, Hon Abdele Mohamed Arab today(Thursday)opened new premises for the recently formed national peace committee to promote cohesion and tranquility.
The new premises will house the recently
established national institution that would be charged with the direly needed task of fostering cohesion and tranquility in the nation such that prosperity to greater level may be achieved.
The former Minister of Interior, Mr Mohamed Nuur Araale “Duur” speaking at the opening ceremony of the new premises said, “We started as volunteer peace seekers before the President of the Republic of Somaliland appointed the peace committee. Sometimes, I am left to wonder why some elders engage in inciting the youth to engage in violence instead of solving the difference which arises among the various communities who have coexisted peacefully over the years.
He further added that the peace committee mandated duties and responsibilities of the Peace Committee of the Republic of Somaliland are to promote peace and unity in the Republic of Somaliland. facilitate peace talks and create forums and an environment for dialogue in order to strengthen peace and stability in society and prevent conflicts and conflicts in the regions of the Republic of Somaliland, especially when we are nearing the Holy Month of Ramadan and release several hundred men languishing in jails who were caught by the various warring sides in both Sanaag and Sool regions. Lastly, I would like to use this opportunity to thank the elders and President of Somali region of Ethiopia who have worked to forge peace between the disgruntled brothers in the eastern regions and Somaliland Brothers.

Mr. Abdilqadir Haji Ismail Jirde, the Chairman of the peace committee speaking at ceremony of the opening of the new Premises said, ” l would like to thank the President of the Republic of Somaliland, His Excellency Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro) for forming the new peace committee and secondly, I will would to state that this committee has both many friends and enemies
“The work of the recently formed national peace committee to promote cohesion and tranquillity is meant to forge peace in the eastern regions of Somaliland mainly Sanaag and Sool and it’s tasked with working with all stakeholders be it Ministry of Interior, elders, religious leaders and security officials. I would like to also thank the President and elders of the Somali region of Ethiopia for their noble efforts in bringing the two sides together.
Mr. Mohamed Farah, the Chairman of the Academy of Peace and Development on his part said, ” We live in one of most turmoil parts (Eastern African Region) of the world but the people of Somaliland are known to be distinct because of we are a people who resolve our difference between ourselves without outside interventions.The Somaliland Peace Committee will also determine measures to prevent, or resolve conflicts, as well as measures to establish and maintain lasting peace and stability in the Republic of Somaliland. It will also work to strengthen and support efforts to build social understanding and coexistence in order to encourage coexistence and build public awareness of cooperation and peace-building
Lastly, Hon Abdele Arab , the Minister of Interior speaking during the event said, ““The President of Somaliland upon assuming the office as the Head of State pledged to bring peace to all regions of the country. The peace committee will also spearhead the government’s efforts in peacemaking, conflict resolution and reconciliation, holding and facilitating peacemaking meetings and negotiations between conflict-affected communities.

The Somaliland Peace Committee, appointed by the President of the Republic of Somaliland, consists of seven members, namely, a Chairman, a Deputy Chairman and 5 other members.
Mr. Abdillahi r Haji Ismail Jirde Chairman, Jama Ahmed Mohamed Odey Deputy Chairman, Hassan Ahmed Ibrahim (Embassy) Member, Ali Said Raygal Member, Mohamed Jama Abgaal, Member Shu’eyb Mohamed Muse Member, Mohamed Iid Dimbiil Member.The Committee may also have a Secretary and advisors responsible for the tasks they need to delegate.
