Hargeisa – The Chairman of the Supreme Court and head of the Somaliland Judiciary Commission, Prof. Aden Haji Ali Ahmed has officially announced the dates for the long-awaited Judicial Institutions Conference, set to take place from June 28 to June 29, 2026.
In a press release issued today, the Chairman confirmed that the two-day conference aims to strengthen and restructure the nation’s judicial bodies, ensuring greater independence and adherence to the rule of law.
The decision follows a prior Judicial Conference held on December 2–3, 2025, where participants agreed on the need for a dedicated gathering of judicial institutions. It also aligns with a presidential circular dated February 3, 2026, which calls for the implementation of a 2026–2029 roadmap for reorganizing the judiciary.
Citing Article 99 of the Somaliland Constitution, the Chairman emphasized that the judiciary—comprising both courts and prosecution offices—must remain independent and bound only by the law.
The announcement was made after consultations with the Attorney General and the President of Somaliland. According to the press release, a preparatory committee will be appointed within three days and tasked with ensuring the conference is conducted efficiently and appropriately.
All regional heads of the judiciary, including courts and prosecution offices, have been directed to prepare adequately for the upcoming conference.
