The Somaliland Justice and Welfare Party (UCID) is going thorough a terrible time at the moment. The power struggle between chair and founder, Faisal Ali Warabe, and presumptive presidential candidate Jamal Ali Hussein has reached epic political proportions. Just recently the chair sacked several high ranking officials from Mujahid Ali Gurey to UCID’s Human Rights, Europe and UK spokesmen because they have all supported Jamal Ali Hussein.

There is no doubt that Faisal Ali Warabe help found UCID, but he was not alone. Throughout its history, UCID, had been home to some of Somaliland’s most talented people, and one by one, they have either left the party or retired from politics. All that remains of a proud and historic party, it would seem,  is a chairman who has gone past his sell by date.

Today, any vestiges of a credibility has been stripped from UCID by its ludicrous chair, Faisal Ali Warabe, who is acting like a child. “It is my party, and I am taking the ball, if nobody plays by my own illegal and illogical rules”. Well, here is some news for the chair, UCID is a national party and it belongs to the people of Somaliland.

Faisal Ali Warabe is redundant. He is like man issuing orders, when no one is listening and he has become yesterday’s man.

Twice he ran for Somaliland President and twice the people of Somaliland rejected him. If it were not for the new blood injected into a failing party by the likes of Jamal Ali Hussein, Abdirashid Hassan Matan, Keyse Gurey, and Nasir Qodax and countless unknown activists, UCID would have gone the way of UDUB. In all honesty, It should have gone the way of UDUB, at least, Somaliland would be spared the shenanigans of a charlatan like, Faisal Ali Warabe.

The way is clear, the real “owners” of UCID, the people of Somaliland, both at home and abroad and the members of Parliament and local councils, have to unchain themselves from this millstone around their necks, Faisal.

It is clear to everyone, even members of his own community, that the chair is neither serving his party nor his country. He has become a tool to be used and abused by those cleverer and more politically astute.

It is one thing to be a Somaliland patriot, it is quite another to be a Somaliland leader. Faisal Ali Warabe may be a patriot, but he is no leader. Fourteen years of flip-flopping, paying lip service to whomever gives him the time of day, without any moral principles or the ability to keep his word, have made the current chair of UCID, the laughing stock of the country. And a political party cannot be taken seriously when its led by a laughingstock.

Can anyone one imagine, UCID, as its led by this man, being relevant in Somaliland as a ruling or opposition party for the next seven years? NO! He has got to go!.

UCID is Somaliland’s Justice and Welfare party, but there is no justice or welfare within the party itself under this current chair. It is time for a change and it is time to rebuild and make the party relevant and credible again.
