Transition Initiatives for Stabilization (TIS+)today during a well-attended ceremony opened a two days meeting held at the Mansoor Hotel unveiled development projects in n Eigavo distrct of Sanaag region and Las Anod in Sool region activities which will complement improvements in government service delivery that demonstrate good governance and promote community cohesion.
Mr. Mohamed Abdikarim Hassan (Mohamed Dheere) head of Transition Initiatives for Stabilization (TIS+) office speaking during the occasion said, “First and foremost, I would like to thank all of you present here today for the approving of development related programs which will support local communities with access to livelihoods, income generation, and basic community infrastructure to ease hardship.
Ms. Amal Yassin and Mr. Abdi Hakim Osman both representatives of Transition Initiatives for Stabilization (TIS+)Hargeisa office gave in-depth details on the proposed development projects to be initiated in Ergavo and Las Anod which will include the construction of new tarmac roads , upgrading of existing roads infrastructures and the acquisition of firefighting equipment and water boozers vehicles.
Mr. Osman Saleban Jama , the Mayor of Las Anod town speaking during the occasion said , TIS Plus has helped the people of las anod by Improving social service delivery such as the installation of solar streetlights which have improved the security of the town.
Mr. Ismail Haji Nuur , the Mayor of Erigavo town speaking at the event said, “I would like to welcome the new proposed development projects by Transition Initiatives for Stabilization (TIS+) in Sanaag but I would like to express my reservations regarding the implementation of the new proposed projects.
Transition Initiatives for Stabilization (TIS)
Somalia has been without a unified central government since 1990. The northern region of Somaliland declared its autonomy in 1991. The current Government of Somalia was established in 2012, but is limited geographically in its influence. The threats of humanitarian disasters, extremist militias, and further fragmentation of the state remain significant.
This U.S. Agency for International Development-funded program increased the visibility of, and confidence in, government by improving government service delivery. We worked with local leaders and groups to create collaborative partnerships between government institutions, the private sector, and civil society, and increase access to information needed to promote peace, recovery, and development for Somalia. Our work with local collaborators helped the Somali people achieve greater stability by encouraging economic growth, strengthening public confidence in government, enhancing cooperation between groups, and improving personal safety.
In six years, more than 850 projects in 17 of Somalia’s 18 regions have been completed, including the creation of more than 13,000 jobs, the construction of 60 miles of roads and 150 government buildings, and the construction or rehabilitation of 18 educational facilities.
