H.E President Ahmed Mohamed Mahmoud Silanyo on Thursday received visiting German delegation led by Mrs Jutta Frasch the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Kenya, Somaliland, Somalia and other countries in the region.

President Silanyo and German ambassador held lengthy discussions in which they explored ways to enhance future bilateral relation between the Somaliland and the Federal Republic of Germany.

Ambassador Jutta Frasch speaking during the joint press conference said, “I am on my first visit here in Hargeisa to inform myself on the situation and to meet and talk various people and we shall be visiting the town of Borame to inspect ongoing projects and I will like to assure you the German government is committed to help countries in this region especially Somaliland and Somalia in a very practical ways.

The German envoy further went on to say, “The Federal Republic of Germany has committed 23 Million Euros for water and sanitation, and we are working closely with the German Development Cooperation together with its implementing agencies KfW and GIZ and with me here is GIZ consular who is works here in Somaliland .The objective is to ensure sustainable and equitable access to safe water and basic sanitation.

“I hope, we shall be able to contribute to the well-being of the whole region and we are doing this in a very pragmatic way because we are all aware of the political situation. I have just congratulated H.E the President of Somaliland and his government the progress made as far as the democratization process is concerned and also the ongoing infrastructure projects are concerned and this is exactly the way forward,” the German envoy stated.

Ambassador Jutta Frasch added, “German has no special interests in the region but we are very much interested in peace and stability in the whole region because we understand the fragile situation hence our committed here and as well in Mogadishu, we are supporting as a member of the European Union AMISOM which is fighting the Al Shabaab terrorists and we are committed to continuing do so in order to achieve peace which is important not only for the horn region but also in my country not to mention the maritime security which we are much concerned with; As you’re well aware of my country recently assumed the command EUNOFOR  Atlanta  mission which is based in the Horn of Africa.

Lastly, the Envoy said, “So you can count on us to promote peace and stability and also coexistence between the people of the various regions and for us it’s important to know the ownership of all this lies with the Somaliland people.
