HARGEISA – The Minister of Health Development of the Republic of Somaliland, Hon. Hussein Bashir Hirsi, received a high-level delegation from Israel at his office today for talks aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in the health sector.
Accompanying the Minister during the meeting were the Directors of Planning and Policy Development, the Director of Public Health, and the Head of Regional Coordination at the Ministry.
The discussions focused on enhancing healthcare service delivery in Somaliland, expanding collaborative initiatives, and identifying priority areas for joint intervention. Minister Hirsi warmly welcomed the delegation to the country and to the Ministry, reaffirming his commitment to translating dialogue into tangible programs that will directly improve the quality of healthcare for Somaliland’s population.
In response, the Israeli delegates expressed their appreciation for the hospitality extended to them and voiced their readiness to engage in productive partnerships aimed at upgrading medical infrastructure, training, and service delivery standards across the country.
Following the high-level meeting, the delegation conducted field visits to Hargeisa General Hospital, Mohamed Aden Sheikh (MAS) Children’s Hospital, and Gargaar Hospital. During the tours, they observed routine healthcare operations, inspected various departments, and assessed existing needs—particularly in areas requiring technical support, equipment, and capacity-building—to further reinforce Somaliland’s health system.
The visit marks a significant step in deepening international health cooperation and signals renewed momentum for strategic partnerships in the public health sector.
