The United States has affirmed Israel’s sovereign authority to establish diplomatic relations with any nation, backing its recent formal recognition of the Republic of Somaliland.
Massad Boulos, senior advisor to President Donald Trump on Middle East and African affairs, made the remarks during an exclusive interview with the London-based newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat.
When asked about Washington’s position on Israel’s decision late last year to formally recognize Somaliland, Boulos was unequivocal.
“Israel has the right to establish diplomatic relations with anyone, just like any other independent country,” he stated.
Boulos further stressed that this principle applies universally, underscoring that the U.S. views Israel’s move as a legitimate exercise of its independent foreign policy.
