Sheikh Sharif: “We do not seek war, but the situation in Mogadishu shows that the system is steadily weakening.”

He added that troops have been deployed around his area, and that some members of parliament and other individuals who were on their way to him have been prevented from reaching the house where he resides.

He accused the government of trying to block opposition gatherings, stating that such measures are only increasing political tensions.

Somalia’s former president, Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, called on all parties to avoid anything that could lead to bloodshed, stressing that the opposition only wants to hold peaceful protests.

“We want peace; we do not want war. We want the Somali people to have the opportunity to make their voices heard,” he said.
