The Somaliland Diaspora Agency (SLDA) under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation of the Republic of Somaliland sends congratulations to UK Government for enhancing diplomatic and security relations with Somaliland, as it was stated in a press release issued by the Chairman of Somaliland Diaspora Agency, Mr. Abdi Abdullahi Hersi, on the Saturday, January 12, 2019.

“On behalf of my name, the Somaliland   communities living in the United Kingdom (UK), as well as Somalilanders residing in Europe, and elsewhere abroad, I would like to congratulate Government of United Kingdom and the Secretary of Defense Hon. Gavin Williamson MP for enhancing the long traditional diplomatic and security relations between the two countries. I would also like to take this opportunity to applaud the newly appointed UK Representative to the Republic of Somaliland.”

“The relationship between the United Kingdom and the Republic of Somaliland is historic, one that we value greatly and highly regard significant for the mutual interests. UK hosts the largest Somaliland community in Europe, whilst the first emigrant Somalilanders went to Europe entered UK in 1880s. The Somaliland community in Europe have not only been resourceful for their country of origin, but also proved vigorous in all the parts they are resident in UK, and integrated well. Among the Diaspora contributing to the country, those Somaliland-British citizens are the majority particularly in the private business investment in Somaliland, and the most in returning home as well. Availing British consular service to them Somaliland has been long waited.”
