MOGADISHU – May 20, 2026, The Somali Future Council has strongly condemned recent war threats issued by the caretaker government’s Defense Minister against the opposition and members of the Council.

According to the Council, the threats are not merely personal rhetoric but are seen as directly representing former President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. They accuse the former leader of recently engaging in military mobilization and political pressure tactics aimed at the opposition, all under the guise of safeguarding national security and stability.

Recalling Somalia’s painful history of coercion, threats, and the use of military force to achieve political objectives, the Council warned that the former president will be held fully responsible for any consequences arising from malicious plots or schemes targeting the opposition or the nation’s stability.

The Council issued an urgent appeal to the national armed forces, urging them to uphold the constitution, protect the safety of the Somali people, abstain from being drawn into political infighting, and reject any unlawful orders from an individual whose legal term in office has ended.

Finally, the Somali Future Council called on both the Somali public and the international community to closely monitor this dangerous and escalating situation.
