Washington, D.C. – The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Abdirahmanirro Mohamed Abdillahi, held a series of high-level meetings in Washington, D.C. with members of the U.S. Congress and ambassadors. The discussions focused on strengthening Somaliland–U.S. relations, advancing strategic cooperation, addressing regional security challenges, and expanding opportunities for trade and investment.
During the meetings, President Abdillahi reaffirmed Somaliland’s readiness to serve as a reliable and dependable strategic partner. He emphasized that Somaliland is peaceful, stable, and strategically located along the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden—one of the world’s most vital maritime corridors. This position, he noted, gives Somaliland an important role in supporting regional security, protecting international shipping routes, and promoting trade and economic connectivity.
The President called for deeper engagement and a stronger, more structured partnership with the United States and other international partners. He stressed that such cooperation would advance shared interests in security, stability, trade, and prosperity. He also highlighted the potential for collaboration in areas such as maritime security, counterterrorism, infrastructure, port development, energy, and investment.
The meetings reflected Somaliland’s continued efforts to build stronger international relationships and to present itself as a stabilizing and reliable partner in the Horn of Africa and the wider Red Sea region. President Abdillahi reiterated that Somaliland remains committed to working with the United States and international partners to promote mutual interests and long-term regional stability.
