BURCO, Togdheer Region – 25 August 2026 – In a significant milestone for the country’s education sector, the Ministry of Education officially unveiled the national examination results for the 2025–2026 academic year during a formal ceremony held today at the National Examination Office headquarters in the eastern districts of Burco. The results cover two critical student cohorts: Grade 8 learners completing their middle school education and Form 4 students finishing their secondary school studies.
The event was graced by a distinguished assembly of senior government officials and key education stakeholders. The high-level delegation included the Minister of Education, the Minister of Transport and Road Development, the Minister of Interior, and the Deputy Minister of Education. Also present were the Mayor of Burco District, senior departmental directors from the Ministry of Education, regional education coordinators representing various parts of the country, and the Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson of the National Examination Office. The ceremony was further attended by an array of dignitaries, community elders, and invited guests, reflecting the national importance placed on the annual examination cycle.
Delivering the keynote address, the Minister of Education presented a comprehensive breakdown of this year’s performance statistics. He announced that 16,051 students had successfully passed the secondary school entrance examinations, thereby securing their eligibility to advance to the next stage of their academic pursuits. In a more sobering disclosure, he confirmed that 27 candidates had failed to achieve the minimum passing score and will be required to resit the examinations during the forthcoming cycle. Additionally, 41 registered students were recorded as absent, having not presented themselves for the tests without providing any documented justification.
The Minister extended his warmest congratulations to all successful candidates, praising their diligence, resilience, and commitment to their studies throughout the academic year. He described their achievement as a testament to their personal determination and the collective efforts of their educators and families. He urged them to build upon this success and to approach the next phase of their education with renewed vigour and ambition. To those who did not meet the required standard, he offered words of reassurance, framing the setback not as a failure but as a learning opportunity—a chance to identify areas for improvement and return with greater preparation in the future.
The Minister also took time to recognize the invaluable contributions of teachers, school administrators, and parents, whose unwavering support he characterized as the bedrock of student success. He called upon all stakeholders—government bodies, educational institutions, and local communities—to redouble their investment in the education sector, asserting that the long-term development and prosperity of Somaliland are intrinsically tied to the strength and inclusivity of its national education system.
The ceremony concluded on a note of collective pride and cautious optimism, with attendees commending the transparency, fairness, and administrative efficiency that marked this year’s examination process.
