Subject: Condemning the Imprisonment of the Director of the Somaliland Human Rights Centre

The Human Rights centre condemns the unlawful arrest and imprisonment of Mr Guleid Ahmed Jama, Human Rights Activist and the director of Somaliland Human Rights Centre while attending to his daily duties was earlier today (18.04.2015) arrested by police who were acting on the orders of the chief magistrate of Hargeisa regional courts.
The chief magistrate of Hargeisa regional courts contravenes Article 25 of Somaliland constitution which states that no person may be arrested, searched, or detained, except when caught in flagrante delicto, or on the issue of a reasoned arrest warrant by a competent judge.
The Human Rights centre condemns in the strongest terms the arrest and unlawful detention of the director of Somaliland Human Rights centre and calls on the chief magistrate of Hargeisa regional courts to immediately release Mr Guleid Ahmed Jama.
