The remains of the former Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, the Late Dr. Abdi Aw Dahir were finally laid to rest on Thursday during a state funeral held in Burao town.

H.E Vice President Abdurrahman Abdilahi Ismail Saylic was among the hundreds of mourners who attended the state funeral for the Late Dr. Abdi Aw Dahir.

The Late Dr. Abdi Aw Dahir passed away on last Wednesday after succumbing to short illness.

There has been an outpouring of grief on local media since his death last Wednesday.

Following the unexpected demise of the Doctor turned politician a number of personalities among the Somaliland president Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo and Speaker of parliament cum leader of “WADDANI” political party Abdurrahman Abdullahi Mohamed “Irro” extended condolences.

In his message of Condolences sent to the Family, relatives and friends of the late Dr. Abdi Aw Dahir, President Silanyo in his own behalf, that of the government and people of Somaliland stated that the deceased was in the forefront for the struggle for freedom and nationhood of Somaliland.
The head of state who worked closely with the departed also touched on his lengthily political association leading to him appointing Dr Abdi Aw Dahir to his cabinet, president Silanyo further acknowledged that the late Aw Dahir was a medical surgeon of reckon.
During his tenure as a senior political appointee in the Silanyo administration the late Dr Abdi AW Dahir held positions as Minister of Livestock as well as minister of Labour and social affairs respectively.
Similarly the speaker of Somaliland parliament Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi Irro who led a high level delegation of senior Wadani party officials to the home of the deceased said that the country has lost a great citizen who served with distinction as both a political leader and Medical doctor.
Hon Muse Bihi Abdi, the chairman of ruling party “KULMIYE” in his condolences message hailed the late Dr. Abdi Aw Dahir as person who employed his medical profession to assist the sick and vulnerable in our society not to mention his unrelenting contribution to the nation.

May Allah (SWT) bless his soul our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time .His untimely death is a great loss to his family, relatives and to the Somaliland nation at large.
