Somalilandpress received a press release issued on the 28th of January of 2010 from Mr Bile Hersi, the Deputy General Manager of the port of Berbera, distancing themselves from the legal dispute regarding the stranded cargo ship, MV Layla-S, in the port of Berbera. Bile states a wealthy businessman wants compensation for merchandise worth $250, 000 destroyed in the Mariam Star fire.

He states:
We the Berbera port authority with dismay received a propaganda concerning with MV Layla from some websites.

The above vessel has been accused by one of the merchants (OMINCO) who his belongings burnt cargo on board her sister ship M/V Mariam Star.

On September 15, 2009 the MV Laila was detained by the local court Berbera after it was (M/V Laila) accused by the merchant for goods estimated $250,000.

There fore the question of being hijacked is null and void. the case is under High Courts.
The owner of both vessels, the burnt one and the other one is aware of his where-about of his vessels.

  1. Berbera port authority showed how ignorant they are, they should hire someone with basic English to manage their information, this is 21st century and English is the language of commerce, No wonder no one comes to the Port.

Now they have detained a ship with it's crew and would not accept responsibility, how can a court over ride the port authority? Who manages the port's affairs the court or the so called port authority?

This is damaging the already bad reputation and creditability of the port and issuing a statement that does not even make sense, most of the word's misspelled will not restore international confidence.

Atleast provide the crews with proper meal and healthcare they are in your premises. What a shame, even pirates provide their hostages meals and shower.

    Your worse than Somalia's pirates.

  2. Berbera port is being misused by few individuals who are the puppets of President Riyale. The place needs new management from the top down.

  3. Berbera port Authority is a misnomer, Berbera port Monarchy is the real name for it, those high ranking in it know that no matter what they do they won’t be changed, because they haven’t been changed since 1991.

Berbera’s reputation can go to hell – if it haven’t already, as long the rules of the Dekkada and Haamaha (oil tankers) are paying the presidency’s bills.

  4. Berbera Port outhority should immideately release tha hijakhed ship and their crews who are suffering many obstacles faced their living system.

this hijack can damage the reputaion of Berbera port which is historic and acient

  5. Ragiinan meesha ka cabaadaya, haddaad wax isku ogtihiin orda oo caawiya dalkiina.

So, the Berbera Port Authority has difficulty with the english language, instead of offering or volunteering to help their nation, we have these guys above, who complain, whilst living the easy life overseas. Get off your backsides and help the nation.

I assist so many Somaliland websites, public and private, in any way I can, without expecting reward or praise, not for political reason, but because I love my country. So, stop moaning and get on your bikes!!!.

    "habar jiifta legdin la fudud"

  6. Kariye do you have something against Somaliland diaspora, I am a university student overseas, I witnessed first hand the impotence of the current administration.

I am a founding member of the Somaliland student association in the country I'm studying in, you are mixing between Country and administration, I love my country and that is way I am criticizing the current administration.

Country and Government are not the same thing my friend.

  7. So, you make point quite clearly, Country and Government are one an the same, unless you believe qabiil over qaran, ever heard the phrase, "My country right or wrong"..

  8. I AM HERE IN BEBBERA, THIS IS THE MOST TALKING TOPIC IN BERBERA, I ASK MYSELF WHY THE NAME OF OUR PORT IS ABUSED TO THAT EXTAND TO ONE BUSINESSMAN WHO CANT ACCEPT GODS WILL, HE WASNOT THE ONLY GUY THAT BURNT SHIP WAS CARRYING GOOD BUT HE WAS THE RICHEST, STILL HE IS THE ONE ILLEGALLY CLAIMING WITHOUT INSURING HIS CARGO…OOOH MY COUNRTY YOU NEED SOMEONE WHO CARES..
    OOMAR FEEL SHAME……..

  9. Mohomoud, ever heard of the law? Doesn't matter if Mr. Oomar is rich or not, he has the right to litigation if he feels that he has a case. At least in Somaliland we still believe in the legal system, in most places in Africa, it is not the same. The owners of the ship have a case to answer, and the sooner they settle, the better. The matter is a civil legal action, and without due process, we would be like the anarchy in Somalia.

  10. First of all, this has nothing to do with Somaliland government , this is the work of few who are anti somaliland . They make the dispute between two business people as if pirate has hijacked the ship. So please let's fight for the good image of Somaliland and it's people instead of calling names. Secondly, i do not know why this ship is been held for so long by the Somaliland authority? If the businessman who rented this cargo did not insured the goods in the first place then it's his fault and should accept the lose and goes on, but if it's insured, the insurance company should cover the lose.

  11. i duoted that thers, any ones, intrest dispite a lot of tolkes recentley the port of berbera and dammaged has been done to it the port of it self
