The National Electoral Commission has announced that they can only be prepared for the holding of the presidential elections for at least after a period of nine months.

In a statement issued Saturday 24th September 2022 by the chairman of the commission, Mr. Muse Hassan Yusuf, the commission issued a three-points decision which read as follows;

  1. That the presidential election that was planned to be held on Nov 13, 2022, a month before the end of the term of office of the president and his deputy, cannot be held both due to technical reasons and financial shortfall.
  2. That the Electoral Commission can technically hold the presidential election only after a period of nine months starting from October 1, 2022
  3. During the nine months, the Electoral Commission prepares all the technical and financial needs required for the completion of the electioneering processes such as voter registration and the presidential elections itself.
