Erigavo – The Minister of Water Resources of the Republic of Somaliland, Mohamed Abdimalik, has announced that the President of Somaliland holds a deep and personal interest in the development of the Sanaag region and is expected to launch major initiatives to address the area’s pressing needs upon his return from an ongoing official visit to the United States.

Speaking from Erigavo, the provincial capital, Minister Abdimalik called on the local population to cooperate closely with the government in advancing regional development. He emphasized that Sanaag is endowed with vast natural resources and untapped opportunities that are already attracting significant international interest. The Minister revealed that various countries and foreign entities are actively exploring investment prospects in the region’s abundant wealth.

“The President, once he returns from his trip to the United States, will take substantial steps to address the needs of Sanaag,” Minister Abdimalik stated. “He is profoundly committed to this region, and our vision is for Sanaag to outpace other regions in development—but this requires that we all work together. We urge the community to partner with us in driving progress.”

The Minister further highlighted the region’s strategic appeal on the global stage, noting: “Sanaag possesses abundant blessings, and the entire Western world now has its sights on it. Turkey, Arab nations, and other international actors are already approaching us. We will face many opportunities ahead—and if we fail to unite and remain divided, those opportunities could be lost, or we could be overwhelmed. We must work alongside the government and resolve our internal differences.”

His remarks come as part of a broader government effort to reinforce stability and development in the eastern regions, with an emphasis on harnessing local resources while fostering unity among communities to ensure that international partnerships translate into tangible benefits for the people of Sanaag.
